  1. I had the same issue with my N54L and missing disks and volume even after a complete power down, but could still access the GUI and SSH to the box. So what I did was to modify the VERSION file in etc.defaults folder and set it back to 4 for the minor Version and rebooted. I got back everything as it was prior to the upgrade so all ok now. Just to be curious, I then went back to my VERSION file and put it back to 5 and rebooted. Everything still ok and all working as expected.
  2. WOW, you have a thimble full of patience don't you. Whilst waiting for somebody to try and help, I would suggest you take a read through some of the relevant topics on the forum. Who knows you may just find what you are asking has already been answered.
  3. I suspect that the VERSION file did not get update in either the /etc or etc.default folder and is still showing the old version stamp
  4. Looks like nanoboot copies over the older files during the boot process. I just did a clean install using nanoboot and then checked the /usr/syno/synoman/webman/ folders and all the files copied during the boot have a datetime stamp of today and match the list of files described for the patch, whereas the original Synology one are stamped Apr 23. 5. The nanoboot img is for the 214Play and also does not work for 4482. I believe that given that there have been no posts from either trantor or gnoboot on this subject, there will be no further updates forthcoming and we should all be thankful now for what we have. setch
  6. I have just updated and it is showing the version as "OpenSSL 1.0.1g-fips 7 Apr 2014" setch
  7. The update works for me. In the DSM GUI, click the download button to pull down the update from Synology (do not run it yet) Do a shell connection to your server as root and issue the following commands sed 's/flashupdateDeb/flashupdateDeb1/' /autoupd@te.info > /autoupd@te.info1 mv /autoupd@te.info1 /autoupd@te.info Go back to the DSM Gui and click the Update button. DSM 5 proposal

I am using trantors release for 5.0 and it works for me. But like all humans, i would like to try other things and gnoboot is one of them. Now I have had several Synology boxes, the main purpose being storage, but secondly I run a charity website and the Synology boxes have never really been man enough to provide the required computing power to manage a busy website. So when I came across XPEnology, I was like a kid with a new toy and have built myself an HP54NL and it does everything that the Synology box does but a lot faster, so this leads me to why I am posting this information. If I was running my stuff under a Windows setup (which I have in the past), then I had to factor in the cost of the Windows operating system (not cheap) plus the hardware. Which comes out slightly more than the average Synology kit. Plus I would have to upgrade Windows to a newer version sometime in the future which is additional cost. So what I am trying to say is that both trantor and gnoboot have probably saved each and every one of us who use their builds a few hundred bucks. Now, you cannot give a child a new toy and then remove it from them without causing all sorts of issues, so I would like to suggest that both trantor and gnoboot combine their extensive knowledge on building the boot images, then setup a joint Paypal account whereby all those who want to use their builds pay an agreed amount of Euro;/Dollars/Yen or whatever currency they see fit. This would then give them access to the latest versions until such time a major version is released again and then those who wish to upgrade, can consider making a further donation and then life goes on the way it should with everybody being happy. Of course nobody will become rich out of this, but at least it will pay for the electricity etc.. Just my 10 cents worth, so don't go shooting me down too quickly. Setch
  10. I just updated from 4.3 to V5 using trantor's release and no issues encountered. I did not lose any data or configuration settings, I just had to update several packages after the upgrade, but I was immediately shown which packages need to be updated. In a nutshell, painless, even updated to the Update 1 that is available. Setch
  11. I was using virtualbox to run my xpenology, but HP are doing £50 off the N54L. So I took delivery this morning and what a nice piece of hardware for the money. Anyway, I installed the 4.3 trantor release without any issues. Booting from a 64 GB SSD and managing 2 x 2TB HDDS at the moment, will add another 2 later this week. So far not run into any problems, Synology have just released 4.3 Update 4 and that installed with out problems. I will be running Surveillance Station, 4 Joomla websites and Media Server, fingers crossed that all runs smoothly. Setch
  12. Hi Stanley, That is not frozen, the operating system has booted, you now need to use Synology Assistant application to search for Diskstation, can be done from any PC connected to the same network, or from the same PC that Virtualbox is installed. Setch
