  1. try like that... cp mpt3sas.ko /lib/modules/mpt3sas.ko (do this from where you stored the .ko into your sys) echo "insmod /lib/modules/mpt3sas.ko" >> /etc/rc.local of course you need to put the file 1st into correct dir
LSI 9201-16i LSI 9201-8i(IT Flash IBM M1015) LSI 9300-16i
  3. i don't know if it's possible to boot off from a normal linux and access the raid.. i know for sure they use an LVM...(3rd post... viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4985) this is the reason why my volumes contains max. 4 disks.. my backup system is a HP ML310 with an installed xpe, so in case my main system crashed i can try to access data via recovery system... also yes...if you use standard NAS functions and don't update the XPE and Syno you can be quite stable...so for me i have 3 +1 systems... 1x main system (bare metal, 16 bay, xeon cpu, 8gb ram, 10G nic, LSI 9201-16i HBA) running on 5.1 1x "toy" system (bare metal, 15 bay, xeon e3 cpu, 32gb ram, 10G nic, LSI 9300-16i HBA) running on 5.2 (with mpt3sas insmod) 1x recovery system (bare metal, 4+1bay, HPML310, 10G Nic) 1x original backup system DS-1812+ in all my years i'm using this software (started with trantor's build) i never had a real issue (except the LSI FW ones)...and since i do have a "real" backup of my data there is limitted risk...but still...it's all home use..and not a production network
  4. or just make it simple....if you don't always need/want to update to the "latest" syno-version it's reliable and stable...i'm still on 5.1 and it works as expected.. with the right hardware i easily burn my DS-1812+...1gbit network speed can be soo slow...
  6. had it running on hyper v for a short time before i moved to bare metal... hyper v is quite easy...just setup your virtual machine and i did "connect" whole physical drives to install the os while the system is installing itself...it also should work with virtual disks.. as for performance and other (auto startup and auto shutdown, hdd sleep,..) reasons i quickly moved to bare metal... why you want to use it on top of hyper-v? if you REALLY need an windows server, then you could virualize this one using phpvirtualbox on your expenology (if the hw is capable enough trough)...
  7. when you donwload the firmware (f.e. DOS version) then there is a manual included.... f.e. 9201-16i http://docs.avagotech.com/docs/12350436 all required commands are in there too just ned to delete the firmware before installing the new one as AVAGO/LSI told me " You have to erase P20 to downgrade and this can only be done in DOS or UEFI. Doc attached. " http://sc836.lindem.de/update.pdf br snoopy78
  8. big mistake!!!! hurry and downgrade..otherwise you might get really trouble... viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4985&p=29300 next time, maybe try searching the forum first...
  9. which FW Version do you use on the LSI?
  10. i don't know which version do you mean with LATEST.. but i strongly recomment NOT!! to use P20 fw... viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4985&p=29300
  11. for me i can see the health status in my xpe for drives connected to HBA

    10Gbe next?

don't know if your N54L can handle the 10G...but you should see some improvement.. i'm running 2 baremetal systems like: supermicro X8SIL-F + 12GB RAM + Xeon X3430 + LSI 9201-16i in SC836 chassis && supermicro X9SRL-F + 36GB RAM + Xeon E5 2603v2 + LSI 9300-16i + LSI 9211-8i in DSN-3200-10 chassis my bottleneck are still the HDDs in the NAS as i don't use SAS drives or SSDs only... normal WD RED The cisco DAC cable you had looks fine... also don't forget to use different IP on the 10G link as otherwise the system won't be really reachable...

    10Gbe next?

i'm using mellanox connect x2 vpi card in my PC & qlogic cards xpenology systems (as they are supported by default) the mellanox should also now beeing supported. YES your setup seems fine, but then how do you interconnect to other clients or internet? I recomment a small 10G switch (like DGS-1510-20) which gives you 2x 10G ports and 18 "normal" 1G Ports, then you have a "whole" network.. please keep in mind, that only changing the network speed won't improve too much. you need also to make sure, that: - source (PC) is fast enough (SATA 3 SSD preffered) - destination (XPenology) is fast enough (RAM, and HDD Raid)
  14. please check your LSI firmware... viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4985&p=29840 i had the issue with P20 FW and you should take some actions asap, as i crashed my whole system.... if only 1 hdd shows this symptoms it looks like it's broken and needs to be replaced.. i've got 2 baremetal systems with 5.2-5565.2 and following HBAs running without any issues: LSI 9300-16i (driver made by trantor viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6772 ) LSI 9201-16i LSI 9211-8i (IBM M1015 LSI IT Flash) just don't use FW P20 then it should be fine...
  15. fuck Capitalism! fuck Germany! since when is germany the "home" of the capitalism? do you even know waht you are talkin about? if so please keep objectively an tell u why you think capitalism and germany is bad... btw..afaik synology is a taiwan based company and the wall street (home of capitalism?) is in the u.s. also no one forces you to use xpenology or to buy a genuine synology....if you've got a bit of honor you'd think about the guys who made this project alive.....by your ignorant and rude behavior all of them might get pushed back as syno makes it harder or impossible...or do you pay all the guys here for their work, only THEN! of course i could agree with you.... just my 2 cent
  16. warum schaust du nicht einfach in die How-To sektion hier im board?
  17. i guess most of us uses LSI cards as they: - are really good - usually fully supported by mpt2sas( now also thanks to TRANTOR the new 12G SAS HBAs using mpt3sas ) - you get good, fast and reliable support if you use a "real" LSI from them - not too expensive when u buy a "rebrand" so in my opinion i wouldn't waste money on some SATA cards and buy the real thing... One more factor to take into consideration is a feature called "staggered spinup" which will save you lots of trouble when you're using more HDDs in your system.... f.e. i'm running an Xeon X34xx with 15 HDDs (10G NIC and LSI 9201-16i) on a 350W psu my new system (Xeon E5, LSI 9300-16i + M1015 IT flash, 10G NIC) also runs on a 350W psu... bcz of staggered spinup the startup power peak doesn't really exist....
  18. working flawlessly... X8SIL-F with LSI 9201-16i X9SRL-F with LSI 9201-8i(IT Flash IBM M1015) & LSI 9300-16i LSI 9300-16i works thanks to Trantor's driver... viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6772#p39822 The SM -F Models are great.. you can do everything remotely... i'm loving them!!
  19. Trantor...THANK YOU !!! YOU are the man!!! before dmesg | grep LSI [ 1.342973] mpt2sas0: LSISAS2008: FWVersion(19.00.00.00), ChipRevision(0x03), BiosVersion(07.29.00.00) [ 4.970040] Copyright © 1999-2008 LSI Corporation [ 5.071157] LSI 3ware SAS/SATA-RAID Controller device driver for Linux v3.26.02.000. after insmod... dmesg | grep LSI [ 1.342973] mpt2sas0: LSISAS2008: FWVersion(19.00.00.00), ChipRevision(0x03), BiosVersion(07.29.00.00) [ 4.970040] Copyright © 1999-2008 LSI Corporation [ 5.071157] LSI 3ware SAS/SATA-RAID Controller device driver for Linux v3.26.02.000. 20. is it possible to add mpt3sas in new release? otherwise, could you advice me, how to add/compile it by myself? i'm using an LSI 9300-16i 12G SAS HBA && LSI 9201-8i SAS HBA .....DMESG only shows this... 21. @zkd, could you please share some pic and the modified data? I'm also planning to build a system with 16x 12G SAS (LSI 9300-16i)+ 10x SATA3 so i could migrate my other systems into a lagre one ^^
