I like your setup! AFAIK DSM is not capable of GPU powered encoding, video files are transcoded purely by software, ie it's beneficial to have more CPU resources available rather than a video card.

I did the same recently, I put a disk from Xpenology to ds214 and upon its boot up it said something like "I need to reinstall", I agreed, and the reinstall succeeded. I restored the settings, however not everything came back to the original state, e.g. shares ACL. However all shares were present on DSM and data were untouched.

I managed to run these files on ESXi 5.5 + upgraded it to the latest / greatest DSM version. Some notes: - E1000 works as a nerwork adapter - always boot from ISO file and pick "Install" menu item, "Run" item doesn't bring the VM into proper state

без разницы, главное чтобы VM/HW версия была 10 или так и не дошло до сих пор допустим esxi 6 это уже HW 12 поэтому надо понизить до 10 Я повторю, чтоб дошло: установил на ESXi 5.5, образ не работает. Значит разница есть.

У меня 5.5 и есть, автор сам не тестировал на 5.5, так что видимо нужно только 6.x

работает только надо выбирать ESXi5.5 , Workstation 10 вместо 12 На версии ESXi 5.5 у меня OVA файлы не деплоятся с ошибкой "Invalid configuration for device 6"

I think if you don't attach a disk at install time, then it won't be used for DSM files.

I've done similar upgrade by replacing nanoboot by xpenoboot. But! I had backups off everything. One thing I noticed is that shared folder settings were somewhat not in place after the migration, and I had to restore the settings from the backup. If you have resources available, you can spin up another VM running DSM 5.1 and then remap disks to + restore configs from backup.

DSM installer should see just one disk with proper setup. You might have missed a step in in the original howto.. Just guessing really here.

Сам спросил - сам отвечу. Проапгрейдить с trantor DSM 4.3-3810 на получилось ни до 5.0, ни до 5.1 Что сделал: 1. Создал новую DSM 5.1 2. Переподключил диски (2 диска, RAID1) от DSM 4.3 к 5.1, система определила что нужно сделать "resync" - ОК, все прошло успешно. 3. Один "косяк" обнаружен: после каждого ребута система определяет сделать "repair", который происходит очень быстро. Даже если его не делать, то все работает отлично.

Думаю как обновить DSM 4.3-3810 с загручиком от trantor'a до последней версии DSM + Xpenoboot, у кого-нибудь есть опыт? Документированный способ, который сработал при обновлении с "5.0-4528 Update 2" выдал "Error 13".
