  1. well i think i tested this before, about a year ago i have several disks in the synology, so with the "file station" i copied from disk to disk , and i also had the issue within synology so there is no nic involved....
  2. ok, dont think its a esxi version issue i only have 1 nic on my hp mciroserver gen 8 / asrock j3150 scsi is out, since i dont use rdm, i created a hard disk directly on the ssd datastore where also esxi was installed but today i tested it on my work, we have here a proliant dl380 gen 9 , exsi 6.5 i did the same setup, quicly created a vmware for 5.2 , all steps are the same , followed this guide untill step 4 result, no issue on smb copy speed!!! so it must be the hardware on my hp microserver gen 8 or my asrock mainboard, this is going to be difficult....
  3. ok, some more info i have attached my old ssd disk with vmware version installed :VMware-ESXi-6.5.0-OS-Release-4564106-HPE-650.9.6.0.28-Nov2016 there was already a vmware running on it with xpe 5.2 , i removed all extra disks, so i have no rdm files or whatever booted up 5.2 , created a a new share, from the disk directly from datastore started copying huge files over SMB, in total about 50 GB, started to copy from local laptop to synology @ speed 110 MB/sec, after a minute it drops and eventally fails/crashes tried ftp now, transferring is stable over ftp, but the speed is like constant 30 mb, cant go any faster, maybe an ftp limitation ? now i am updating the esxi build to : VMware-ESXi-6.5.0-Update1-5969303-HPE-650.U1.10.1.0.14-Jul2017 result, same issue
  4. i didnt test ftp before maybe it has todo with the installtion itself normally on first boot, in the boot menu, you can choose install for Vmware or something like that but becuase boot menu is verry fast, always the first option was selected maybe that can cause an issue?
  5. hi, at the moment still running baremetal, dont have time testing this out just became father

  7. Yes, me too...can you create a vmxnet file or ovf , that way I can make the same config
  8. Hi, the settings of your your vmware host, like paravirtual or sas, your vmxnet, controller... I think you can make an export template
  9. Hi, no only tried SMB ..can you maybe make an export of your settings? I don't use passthrough btw
  10. yes, tried those settings also because on baremetal everything works fine, only on esx it doesnt work

    DSM 6.1.x Loader

guys running on ESX, dont you have slow SMB speeds when copying a large folder containg more then like 20-30 GB for me its starts at the expected speed at 110 MB/sec , but after like 20 sec, it drops to 10 kb ... and thetn stutters on 10 MB the only way i get SMB speeds is to run on baremetal tried it on my older asrock device, now i have a hp micro gen 8 , same issue , also tried esx 5 and 6.5

    DSM 6.1.x Loader

When you first boot the vm, you select to start the image with esx instead of baremetal in tbe bootmenu... Does that make any difference? And how do you do that, its so fast here i can even select it...

    SMB Slow Speeds

ok, gonna try it out what esxi version you used before? because i see in that link you posted a reply : I'm experienced low write performance on my SSD disk (50-120MB/s) under ESXI 6.5. First I disable vmw_ahci but transfer was more/less the same, Also I did revert ESXI to 6.0 u2 but again the same.

    SMB Slow Speeds

I dont know how you guys get good SMB copy speeds over the network i have the issue with my HP gen 8 xeon on esxi 6.5 SATA setup (no scsi raid), with synology 5.2 , 6.1 1.02 , 6.1 1.02a so all versions in fact what happens, i do a clean install, just setup 1 shared folder so i start copying from my laptop over 1 gb network to synology, transfer speeds are looking verry good, arround 110 MB/sec , then after a miniute or something, the speed drops to like 8-9 MB and is verry slow and constant drops (tested with a file of 5-10 GB) PS: dont have issues when running in bare metal here below some screens of my setup doesnt mather if i add more/less processors/memory, also tried SATA controller/SCSI controller what am i missing to get good SMB speeds? thnx screens see attached

    DSM 6.1.x Loader

i have esxi 6.5 running om my hp gen8 server when i import that .vmdk file to register the VM i always have this issue/warning : This VM is attached to a network portgroup that doesn't exist. Edit this VM and attach it to a different network i cant remove the adapter or change settings in the created vm, so therefore if i startup this vm, offcourse the network is not started i also had the same issue using the old 6.02 loader, now also with the alpha in order to make it work, i need to manually create the vmware , then it works
