  1. well, at this moment, still running baremetal, because i had the SMB copy speed issues only with ESX , that i couldnt fix but going to try now again, starting with 6.1 so i am going to install esxi on the SD card slot, instead of the USB you did , should not an issue going to put in this card : http://www.sybausa.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=156 , i have it around, its a slower x1 lane, but should maybe work also, otherwise going to buy that asmedia 1061 you have so its goint to be similar good tip about that persistent - non persistent, i think i had the same issue also on 6.1 on my older ASROCK system thnx for the details
  2. ok , its clear now i am going to make a second hard disk my datastore, that i will use for my DSM installation, shou should also work, so i can start testing without connecting the 4 drives first , should also work didnt know though, when you that synology copies the system on every disk thnx a lot for the help!! also you posted, that your vmdk 50 mb disk, is thick independent, persistent, shouldnt it be : non-persistent? i know that on 5.2 it needs to be non-persistent , maybe its different on 6.x
  3. ok, thnx for the details, iam going to test it also with 1 GB , maybe i had performance issues because of the LEGACY AHCI mode, i used 2 GB for plex transcoding maybe 1 GB is enough also but i still dont understand where you installed your DSM on ?, you have tndeed the .vmdk file (disk1 ), that points to your synoboot.img , right? thats indeed to boot the system but first wizard of DSM, you need to select a disk to install the .pat file ? i dont see that disk in your screenshots? thats why i thought you used 1 of your 4 bay drives?
  4. another extra question, where have you installed DSM on? on one of the 4 wd red in your front bay ? why dont you create a new hard disk on your datastore? so you can install DSM on your SSD ? or am i mistaken?
  5. hi pigr8 , thanx for the detailed explenation well, you can boot from the SSD in odd port :-), in the bios you have selected ahci , but you can also select AHCI LEGACY mode when you reboot, go back in the bios, then you have 2 cougar controllers, then you can change boot order : cougar 2 , the cougar 1 , that way you can boot from ODD with esxi on but, anyway, dont try it, it really gives bad performance, i am going to buy an extra controller i have another question though, since you have the same hardware as me , i have terrible slow smb speeds if i run under esxi, if i do baremetal, it all works fine see my post here : have a look at the videos i created in my last post in that thread , i solved it on my other ASROCK system by lowering the memory from 4 to 2 , but i didnt use 1 GB , i see you are using 1 GB memory in your vm ? also last question : what esxi are you using? the HPE version? can you post me your iso filename? do you have disabled vmw_ahci can you try that ? do you run 5.2 or 6.1 ? can you maybe make an export of your vmware? thnx in advance!!!
  6. Hi, i have an issue/something strange with my hp gen 8 microserver that server has a 4 porth bay, but if you setup the bios into ahci legaci mode, you can use the 5th ODD port, so i setup that port to first boot device, so i can attach an SSD to it so i install xpenology fine on that ODD port with SSD (synology 5.2 , and usb stick method) , my 4 bay ports are empty at this stage so the first wizard of xpenology, tells me that its going to install and format on DISK 3 ? really strange, since there is only 1 disk present but setup finish succesfully, afterwards i can perfect boot the xpenogy so i put in my 4 drives, but then xpenology doesnt boot anymore, seems DISK 3 , that number is being replace with another drive, and my SSD is now DISK 5 at this stage therefor the setup is now corrupt is there a way when i do the clean install, i tell the setup, that the SSD drive is already number 5 or something like that? thnx in advance
  7. can you tell me your steps how you did it? or make some screens?
  8. is no one using passtrough the sata card on a hp gen 8 ? (ahci mode) thnx
  9. so to be sure, my ram wasnt defect, i used another 2 x 2 GB ram in my system on 2 GB host synology 5.2 is stable when copying when i put 3 GB or 4 GB on the virtual machine, i have the smb issue again
  10. OMG, finally found it start testing again on my ASrock n3150 , i lowered the RAM from 4 to 2 GB problem gone??? been testing on a 5.2 system how is that possible?
  11. tested the new 6.5 build , non HPE version, same issue then disabled ahci : esxcli system module set --enabled=false --module=vmw_ahci same issue i think above is another issue, its an issue/case to have better speeds the issue i have here , is that smb speed actually drops to 0 kb and eventually fails
  12. sagrotan, do you had slow perfomance , but a stable performance? or dou you have the same issue as i posted earlied, that you can see in the video so it starts normal at 110 , then drops till 0 kb/sec ... because those are 2 different issues...
  13. seems last week a new esxi 6.5 NON hpe released http://www.nxhut.com/2016/11/fix-slow-disk-performance-vmwahci.html it includes the latest fix, so gonna try that NON HPE iso from esxi : VMware-VMvisor-Installer-6.5.0.update01-5969303.x86_64 installing now ...
  14. do you have the same microserver gen8 hardware as me?
  15. after some more testing, today configured an : ProLiant DL380 Gen9 , esxi 6.5 => same setup NO ISSUE wtf? so maybe its related to a microserver gen8 ? but there are so many people using it? whats wrong with it?
  16. tried todat 6.1 , 1.02b loader 3615 , same issue on HP gen 8 and asrock 3150 systems
  17. hi i have an hp gen 8 , so i have setup bios in ahci legacy mode, so i can boot from my ssd disk attached to the ODD port that works fine in esxi , i have passthrough the b120 sata controller, on my host, i have attached the pci device (controller) when i boot synology, it doesnt see the disks attached to the controller? how can i see those disks? i want to do this setup, to have the smart status ablility, with rdm its not possible thnx
  18. No, but it's not network related as you can see in video 2 , it's also happening within Synology itself
  19. yes, tried ftp, but its slower and stable processer is normal , there is actually nothing else on that server installed, its a clean setup
  20. as a real final test, reenabled smart array in bios, created a new raid 0 array (just 1 ssd disk) started over... same issue
  21. ok, just started clean on a new HP gen 8 microserver => hp part => F9A40A => https://www.hpe.com/h20195/v2/GetPDF.aspx/c04123182.pdf setup bios to ahci support, dont want to use smart array inserted 1 ssd disk installed clean esxi 6.5 on that ssd , used latest build : VMware-ESXi-6.5.0-Update1-5969303-HPE-650.U1.10.1.0.14-Jul2017 created a new host with synology 5.2 to test, see screenshot of the config : https://www.dropbox.com/s/54toxj4gfn7ya5b/settings.JPG?dl=0 & https://www.dropbox.com/s/xri734f6kwhmsp7/settings2.JPG?dl=0 created 1 volume , 1 share ... , nothing else test 1 start copying ... bam ... smb copy transfer slow, created a video of it, so you can see whats actually happening : video here = https://www.dropbox.com/s/81ocyt1d2vhbigk/syn5-1.avi?dl=0 ( just coping over network 2 iso files, it starts happening from 25% ...it gets worse and worse, eventually stopped filming, because it never finishes... (see end of movie) test 2 you see 1 iso file 6 gb was succesful, rebooted synology first, whent into "file station" from synology itself, just started copying that iso file to another folder on the SAME share , bam, same issue video here = https://www.dropbox.com/s/1cpmqjoxdx60a5w/syn5-2.avi?dl=0 this can exclude network / laptop issues ... really frustating and above configuartion is pretty straight forward ... nothing fancy - same identical test when running bare metal ... no issues - same identical test when running esxi standard on a asrock mainboard n3150 , same issue , so we can exclude HP hardware , i used 6.0 there , this version : ESXi-6.0.0-20160804001-standard-customized so we can exclude 6.0 vs 6.5 ... i dont know what to test anymore...
  22. hi Palcia, can you do the same test as i did in my previous post? thnx
