  1. Hi, Just wanted to post about my recent experiences upgrading my XPENOLOGY box with this board. I, like a few others here had problems getting my USB 3.0 ports to work properly. Latest BIOS, different power supplies, etc.. They did not work in Windows as a test either, nor would they work in the UEFI BIOS with USB 2.0 keyboards and mice, even with legacy mode enabled. I did get them to work in XPENOLOGY with USB 3.0 devices thanks to some posters here by changing a USB BIOS setting (can't remember off the top of my head). Here's the thing. This particular board also did not work with some faster RAM I had from the get go, so I had to use slower memory than I should have had to for the machine to even POST. Also, no USB 2.0 devices ever worked in the USB 3.0 ports, even with legacy mode enabled. My thinking is, when you load BIOS defaults with legacy USB mode enabled, everything should at least function in some capacity. In the end, as I was able to, I returned the board. The new board works fantastically with faster memory, and the USB 3.0 ports work with BIOS defaults loaded. The USB 3.0 ports also now properly recognize USB 2.0 devices such as older drives, keyboards, and mice. The moral of the story is, if you need to get the USB 3.0 ports working on a board you have had for a while, make the BIOS settings change listed earlier in this thread. If you just purchased a new board and are experiencing issues with your USB 3.0 ports, save yourself the headache of messing with it and just RMA it. Frank
  2. With my Western Digital Passport drive, I found that only after formatting it EXT4 from within a separate Linux installation did it work properly when plugged in to my XPENOLOGY machine. If I plugged in the drive before that, for whatever reason it would kernel panic the XPENOLOGY machine. Frank
  3. I set my MAC address to native for my card and randomized the other three dummy MACs. I also changed the SSH port as well. That stopped everything for a couple of weeks, but I did see some fresh some IP blocks yesterday in my logs (I block after five failed attempts)... Definitely changing to a non default port cut way way down on the attacks though. Frank

  5. Hi, The other thing you might try is to use the built in scheduler in Synology to put the machine to sleep, but use your router (if you have a DD-WRT capable router or another that allows this) to schedule wake up times. It seems like it's the WOL event coming from the Synology that causes the BIOS corruption (at least on my Zotac ION Atom board). I can put the machine to sleep from the DSM interface and send it magic packets externally to wake it up with no problem. Frank
  6. Hi, Please understand that I am new to this as well, but I just did the upgrade from update 3 to 4 without a hitch following the same procedure I used last time outlined here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1082&start=330#p9060 Fingers crossed. Frank
  7. Just to report back. I got XPENOLOGY 4.3 with the latest update up and running on my IONITX-A-U Atom N330. It works pretty well! My only curiosity is that I seem to get spotty performance transcoding videos via Video Station... It's curious in that sometimes it will transcode a video using 60-70 % CPU and everything is smooth, then other times it goes to around 100% cpu transcoding the same video and playback is is all jerky. This looks to be related to the ffmpeg process sucking up all available resources. I had better luck the other day with Plex, but even that now is going to 100% cpu and choking. It's very.... Unpredictable... Which is driving me nuts. I know the dual core Atom is not going to be so great at transcoding, but I know it was working better on and off. Note that I do know that it does not always transcode, depending on the video. This is only referring to when the ffmpeg process is spawned when streaming a video. With the variations occurring with the same test videos. It's very weird! Any ideas would be appreciated on that one. I'd say overall though, this board works quite well with minimal headaches setting up with XPENOLGY. Hopefully this helps somebody else out there. Frank
  8. Hello all, I recently stumbled upon this forum. Very cool stuff! I am considering trying this out to refresh my old Zotac Atom running WHS v1. Looks like it might work pretty well... This is the motherboard model: IONITX-A-U Atom N330 Dual Core 90-Watt PSU WiFi ITX Intel Motherboard. I'll write in as soon as I have time to try this out with 4.3. Any input/suggestions beforehand would be appreciated if anybody has familiarity with this particular setup. It's pretty much just the motherboard using onboard VGA, wired Ethernet, and two Seagate 1.5tb hard drives. Thanks! Frank
