  1. - Outcome of the update: SUCCESSFUL - DSM version prior update: DSM 6.2-23739 UPDATE 1 - Loader version and model: JUN'S LOADER v1.03a2 - DS918+ - Using custom extra.lzma: NO - Installation type: BAREMETAL - ASROCK J3455-ITX - Additional comments: Board has 2 SATA ports only so two more 2 port cards added. Reboot is much faster than prior to update. This is quite a snappy unit now
  2. J3455M baremetal. managed to install DSM, but system shuts down as soon as I try to connect via Syno Assist.
  3. Build the USB drive then check the Grub file, most of it is there, after that some searching fills in the rest
  4. 8. A casual observation and no way scientific. Looking at Resource Monitor on two systems. System 1 ASrock J3455M 4Gb IO Crest 4 Port SATA III PCI-e 2.0 x1 Controller Card Marvell Non-Raid SI-PEX40064 4x3TB HDD 1x4TB HDD SHR Raid DS-3617xs 6.1.40-15217 System 2 ASrock AD2550R/U3S3 - 4GB 3x4TB 2x5TB SHR Raid DS-3615xs 6.1.3-15152 update 8 System 1 - CPU at idle and no activity - DSM Internal Service running at 8-11% use System 2 - CPU at idle but with DL manager files available for upload - DSM Internal Service running at LT 1% use
  9. I have no patience and updated one of my main systems, so far so good. Two updates to packages took place after first boot, Universal Search & File Station ASrock J3455M 4Gb IO Crest 4 Port SATA III PCI-e 2.0 x1 Controller Card Marvell Non-Raid SI-PEX40064 4x3TB HDD 1x4TB HDD SHR Raid DS-3167xs
  10. Updated without issue, will see over the next few days how this works out. ZOTAC IONITX-E NVIDIA MCP7A-ION 4GB 4x2TB HDD IO Crest Dual RJ45 Gigabit Port NIC PCIe X1 Ethernet Network Card Component (SY-PEX24028) DS3617xs - DSM 6.1.4-15217
  11. All upgrades and net new installs performed on Baremetal systems, all systems are Intel Atom based CPU's Process was tried and tested on a couple of different systems before final push to Prod. Step 1. Clean install on Zotac NM10-DTX. Used the "Enter C at Grub Menu" method to input VID,PID,SN & MAC1. Did not need to do SATAPORTMAP. MB comes with 6xSATA on one controller. Network attached via Ethernet. Took 3x3TB drives from a system that was DSM5.2. This system originally had 3x2TB and 3x3TB drives. I used the 3x3TB drives and booted up and away we go. did a clean install with 2 of the 3 drives and system came up. I then followed the youtude vid to sudo and ad admin to root in order to use WINSCP to mod the config file to add SHR RAID option back. Added last 3TB drive as Hybrid SHR. All the previous settings from DSM5.2 were still live. Well that saved a lot of time. Step 2.Upgrade Zotac IONITX-E (nVidia MCPP7A-ION Chipset) based system using the 3X2TB drives drom that DSM5.2 box. Again used "Enter C at Grub Menu" method to input VID,PID,SN & MAC1. No issues other than both the system from Step1 and Step2 had the same IP address as the original DSN5.2 was set to manual DHCP. The original LAN port either died or the chipset is not supported so I opted for a cheap 2port NIC (IO Crest Dual RJ45 Gigabit Port NIC PCIe X1 Ethernet Network Card Component (SY-PEX24028) Turned on WOL and made sure BIOS allowed for WOL too. WOL works!! Step 3. Upgrade the real DSM5.2 system to 6.0.2 (ASRock AD2550R/U3S3 Mini ITX Server Motherboard DDR3 1066) with 2x4TB 3x5TB HDD all on 2nd SATA controller Build USB drive with RUFUS with Jun 1.01 Edit drive on Win10 tablet to make VID,PID,SN &MAC1/2 . Did not change/add/mod SATAPORTMAP. System booted. Found system with find.synology.com/#. Migrated to 6.02. Performed all updates to Installed Packages and system upgrades, no issues. Made new USB drive with Jun 1.02b and migrate to DSM6.1.3, perform update and all is right with the DSM world
  12. Time for a word of thanks to all those who have contributed to this. I finally upgraded from 5.2 -> 6.02-> 6.13. following mostly everything that has been posted in the previous pages. A couple of things of note. I used a Win10 tablet to directly edit the CONFIG file on the USB stick. the whole OSMOUNT thing and all that rig ma-roll was not required. Basically: RUFUS to make the USB drive using the Jun 1.xx IMG as input Insert USB Stick into Win10 system and use Notepad++ to edit the CONFIG file. As per instructions, changed VID, PID, SN & MAC1 & MAC2. Power down DSM, swap USB sticks, power up and wait about 5 mins after the happy hacking msg. used find.synology.com/# and follow the bread crumbs from there. Cheers MF
  13. Hot tip for those waiting (for the elevator). Push the up or down buttons repeatedly and the elevator will arrive much faster, just for you
  14. For the instruction-ally challenged. This on the first page of this post Make sure you read the Install Guide, Upgrade Guide and FAQs before you post, or I will bury the Downloads in the FAQs/Guides to make you read them to find the links. DOWNLOADS WILL BE BACK WHEN 2.3 is out.
  15. Followed instruction, many thanks for everyone' input! Booted okay but had error msgs saying could not find serial number. used Synology Assistant to find device and it reported Migrate able. Also reported errors with SATA controller and disabled controller therefore had only 1 drive of 3 working and could not update. back to step 1 As a side note, the other PITA is editing the boot USB EFI disk. I have a Win7 desktop only.
  16. Anyone tried and succeed installing 6.0.2-8451 update? Failed for me with "unknown error"
  17. Describe where or what you are doing at the point of "not working" The VM boot process takes a few seconds are you are left with a screen with blue box and 5 lines of output, last line should say "Booting the kernel"
  18. something I have done in the past in order to test various upgrades is to build a system with 2 disks in SHR (both same size) and them shut system down and pull one disk and run on different hardware. Obviously DSM reports a broken array, I then install yet another disk an rebuild the array. I then keep the original 1/2 mirror for future rebuild and test (I have a lot of old disks laying around)
  19. Can't get community packages to install. All Locations are shown as invalid, anyone else with this issue?
  20. 1st time I have seen password request. I D/L the file a week ago and it worked fine. Not sure what to tell you
  21. thanks to those folks who provided input. I have DSM6 running as a VM guest under workstation12. the boot process fooled me for a minute, I was expecting to see the usual msg stream that I see on a baremetal DSM startup. Boots in a couple of secs with miniml output, then used Syno Assistant to find server. Would like to change serial number as it matches one I already have. Added 2 Virt disks of 250GB and created RAID (JBOD) array. Considered a build of either ESXi or small Linux distro as host OS with VM Workstation but the disk limits suggest this wont work for me limit being Virtual disk size 2TB minus 512 bytes. Is this one disk or total disks to equal 2TB. Any VM guru input appreciated
  22. All the work and feedback is much appreciated, there is a high likelihood that many of us that haunt this, and other sites, are in financially viable situations (ability and understanding of handling money not withstanding). Charity to those less fortunate might also be an option. Have no idea how that would be managed.
