  1. Hi, With the help of Trantor's work and the beta v1.1 synoboot file, dmesg shows my 3 x 4tb and 1 x 2tb WD HDD that i have attached to the rocketraid 3620 controller. dmesg shows the HDD as sdo, sdp, sdq, and sdr. The drives however, do not show up in xpenology under "HDD Managemnt". For testing, I was able to telnet to xpenology and was able to manually using mdadm to --create a raid5 volume using the 4 drives. I was able to format the raid5 volume using mke2fs and I was able to mount the volume manually. The drives just do not show up on normal boot up and they are not being picked automatically and thus not being used as part of the xpenology volume creation. I can see from dmesg that xpenology creates the md0 raid, and then i can see that the rocketraid driver is installed, and that the 4 HDD attached to the controller are being picked up. I'm now thinking that the 4 HDD attached to the raid controller are not being used in the raid creation , because they are simply not being identified until the raid volume has already been created? Is my thinking correct? and if so, is there a way where we can tell xpenology to load the rocketraid drivers (and thus make the HDD attahced to the controller available) prior to mdadm trying to create the software raid volume? Any comments appreciated.
  2. Hi i've given up on my Highpoint RocketRaid 2340, (just could not compile the drivers "properly". after creating the module i got a unknown symbol or parameter error when insmod, so obviously doing something wrong with the compiling, or my compiling environment). So i've now got a RocketRaid 3620 controller which i thought was supported but i'm still not able to see any hard drives attached to the controller. I've installed XPEnology DS3612xs DSM 4.2 build 3211 ++ (repack v1.2) and XPEnology DS3612xs DSM 4.3 build 3810 ++ (repack v1.0). I don't see any obvious errors in dmesg it looks like RocketRaid 3xxx / 4xxx driver loads, but alas the 2 x 4TB WD RED HDD do not show. They both show up in the RocketRaid bios as legacy drives, i've tried initializing them both but still XPEnology does not see them. Is there anybody out there who is actually using the RocketRaid 3620 or 2340 with XPEnology? Am i missing something really obvious here?? Any comments appreciated.
  3. Hi Trantor, thanks for the info. Unfortunately i'm at the end of my linux knowledge. I compiled kernel 3.2.30 and used this to patch the rocketraid 2340 drivers so that they would compile in 3.2.30. I did compile the drivers with one warning, but it still created the rr2340.ko file. I put the rr2340.ko in /lib/modules on the xpenology. i tried insmod /lib/modules/rr2340.ko and still geting "can't insert ...invalid module format" I also added rr2340 in /etc/rc and then did dmesg. dmesg gives rr2340: version magic '3.2.30 SMP mod_unload modversions 'should be '3.2.30 SMP mod_unload' any help appreciated Do i need to set something when i'm compiling the 3.2.30 kernel to change the version magic so that it matches what xpenology expects? Obviously i'm missing something here!!!
  4. Hi Guys, just a follow up from my last post. Apologies for my noobness!!! i compiled the rocketraid 2340 open source driver. Created a rr2340.ko module file. When i do inmod /lib/modules/rr2340.ko i get error cannot insert module. Am i correct to assume this error is because i compiled the module using a 2.6.xx kernel, and am trying to add the module to xpenology which is running 3.2.xx kernel??? The driver on the highpoint website as linked in my previous post would not compile using a 3.2.xx kernel. Is there anything that i can do? Can you convert a module compiled with kernel 2.6 to one that is compatible with kernel 3.2? Or does the driver code need to be updated so that it can be compiled using a 3.2 environment?? Or should I just buy a newer card as the 1.2 repack supports the 3xxx and 4xxx series of rocketraid cards? Thank and any help appreciated.
  5. Hi Trantor, Firstly thank you for all the work you are putting into this. Really awesome!! I have setup my nas using your latest repack. Unfortunately am not able to see any of my drives connected to my RocketRaid 2340. I assume the card is not supported. Could you please add support for Highpoint RocketRaid 2340. Based on Marvel 88SX6081. The drivers are at http://www.highpoint-tech.com/BIOS_Driv ... rr2340.htm Alternatively can i simply download the drivers myself and telnet or ssh to the running nas and install the drivers? Thanks
