I had the '56%' issue a few times and found that if I edited the vid/pid for my usb but left the MAC and S/N as the 'default' in the grub, DSM installed ok . After reboot and checking I changed the MAC to the machines NIC (plus S/N to a non-Syno random string) and it worked ok.

I have no idea why this worked, on some installs, editing the MAC before install didn't cause the error.

Thanks, I will give it a shot

  2. Hi guys, I have a problem, I am trying to update an existing 5.2 system. I unplugged all the existing drives and just plugged in a spare drive just to test the hardware. I followed the guide with the VID/PID and MAC address changes. I booted from USB fine, used the browser to update the .pat (using DSM_DS3615xs_15152.pat) and it uploads it and then at around 56% progress a red 'Unknown exception' message' shows up and installation halts.

    The MB is a

    ECS NM70-I2 (V1.0) Intel Celeron 1037U 1.80GHz Intel NM70

I have an extra SATA Controller (IO Crest 4 Port SATA III PCI-e 2.0 x1 Controller Card Marvell Non-Raid with Low Profile Bracket SI-PEX40064) plugged in and I saw that a user said it worked out of the box for them.

Any ideas on how to proceed?

    Thanks in advance.

  3. Last time I updated was to DSM_DS3615xs_5644 with all the updates up to synology_bromolow_3615xs upd5.

The reason I want to upgrade is to go from 1 drive replication to 2 drive replication. Otherwise, I would leave it alone.

My question is, which tutorial and set of files/loaders, etc is current and applicable to my current set up?

    Thanks

  4. Hello,

since WOL has not worked for me out-of-the box, I decided to create this thread where we can share experience on this topic.

For some reason activating WOL over the GUI (Control Panel|Hardware) fails and does not have any effect. If WOL is supported by your HW configuration this is how you should get it running (DSM4.2):

    Prerequisite:

    • Find out the real MAC address of your Ethernet adapter (not the faked one by xpenology!) e.g. by booting linux/win form liveCD

    • Enable WOL options corresponding to your HW in BIOS

    1. Activate the WOL setting on your Ethernet adapter:

    a. Enable SSH service (Control Panel|Terminal) and login (e.g. via putty) as root with admin password

    b. Run following command: “ethtool -s eth0 wol g” (assumed eth0 is your Ethernet adapter)

    2. Power off your system as usual

    3. Now wake-up your system by sending a WOL magic packet using the REAL MAC address of your Ethernet adapter. There are many tools over internet which can do this; such a functionality is integrated in some router’s FW (e.g. dd-wrt)

Your system should boot up normally -this worked for me on two different systems. Now I am searching for a good way how to persist this setting in synology.

As a work-around you can set up a task (executing the above command) with DSM 4.2’s integrated Task Scheduler or via the 3rd party “Cronjob Editor” which is periodically executed once the system has booted.

    Have fun!

    I got this when I tried ethtool -s eth0 wol g

"Cannot get current wake-on-lan settings: Operation not permitted

    not setting wol"

  5. Undecided -- That motherboard and CPU combo looks like a very good value. Do all of the features (including WOL) work well with XPEnology 4.2? Also, what case and power supply did you use for your build? Thanks in advance.

I haven't been able to get WOL to work. Someone told me to try this:

    viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1028&start=260#p6660

But I have not had a chance yet.

I did use a hex editor to fix the MAC Address.

I also used the scheduler and the NAS shuts itself off and turns itself back on just fine.

I added a Syba mini pci-express SATA 3 card so now I have 6 sata ports. I also added a 4-port USB3.0 pciexpress card so now I have usb 3.0 ports as well but I have not had a need for them yet.

I don't even need the 6 SATA ports yet, I have 4 disks in there.

The case I used is an old Lian Li I've had for a while now

Takes standard ATX PSU but I did not trust the PSU I had so I used a thermatake 180w FlexAtx PSU I had lying around.

  6. Only issue I have is with the add-on mini-pci express SATA card. DSM does not see any drives attached to that. Without it, I am limited to 4 drives on the onboard SATA.

    It's a ASMedia ASM1061 based card with 2 6Gbit SATA ports.

For driver request please use : viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1361&p=6528#p6528

Thanks, I'd like to report the ASMedia card works now. It was a defective card and it was replaced. Everything is great!

  7. Success on a FoxConn D70S-P Mini-Itx Celeron 1037U.

Everything seems to be working except the WOL. It says 'Error setting WOL' every time I try to set it.

The board has the N70 chipset and Realtek 8111F LAN chip.
