What BIOS are you using, and how is your HDD/Sata ctrl. related settings?

Make sure the "Plex" user have the needed rights to read the folder/files, and try to make sure they are following the naming standard.

Plex transcoding to RAM?

Most likely bad connection between the cable and the SATA interface in either one or both ends.

PMS = Plex Media Server, supporting both HW and SW transcoding. SW is CPU "intensive" but will in many cases give a better result than HW, unless your HW is new/strong enough. Your CPU supports Quick Sync, but beeing a 3. gen it is far from optimal. On other "bases" than DSM, a GPU can be used for HW transcoding.

For "homeuse" I have Nvidia Shield TV as stationary clients, (using either Kodi or Plex), they play "anything" without the need for transcoding. "This Is The Way" I have a Plex server running, that I use for mobile clients, either at home or "on the road", when due to bandwith etc. transcoding might be needed. But to use HW transcoding on the PMS, you need a PlexPass. If your TV is "smart" it may support Plex, Emby or JellyFin (the last one is *free*). Edit: Did you plan to use Synology's Video Station as your DLNA server?

@AbuMoosa You should not be using HW Raid, but leave it up to DSM to make a software Raid. In your BIOS, the drives *should* be configured as single drives, AHCI mode.

@AlexH Just out of curiosity, what "software" did you download and install on your Synology DS116?

Ohh, I got it, must have been the "SSD Cache Advisor" so I checked another of my boxes, also with 16GB RAM but no SSD Cache. Both are based on DS3615xs, the first one running DSM 6.1.x this one is on DSM 6.2.x

Where did you find this calculator? Here I am running with 16GB RAM, and I have a 128GB SSD as cache, no problem.

Let's just agree to disagree the USB boots the bootloader, the bootloader loads DSM And since I have at least 7 HP G7 Microservers. home and at friends, running XPE flawlessly, since DSM 4.x, in addition to a handfull others no need to tell me that Synologys OS is called DSM. Just "jumping in" before reading the complete topic: The *only* bootable drive, is your USB drive holding the bootloader. None of the HDD's are "bootable for DSM".

Hi, have you sorted this out yet? Did you use a static IP configured on your NAS, or did you use DHCP? If DHCP, check your DHCP server and it's log, to make sure you are looking for the correct IP. Did you try to find it using the Synology Assistent?

That *might* be due to my PlexPass, as we passholders have some "benefit's". But the one you found, was the same version as I was running when I posted the screendump above, working fine on my NAS

You *did* choose the Intel 64-bit ? (intel as in platform, not as in brand) Try to uninstall the .spk, and do a reboot. Then download and install "PlexMediaServer-1.21.2.3918-e47113e83-x86_64.spk" (Intel-64bit)

@Arsiezis Did you download the .spk using the Package Center, or direct from plex.tv ? As shown in my screendump, my installed version, from Plex, is newer than "the newest" from Syno.

I run Plex dockerless, installed the .spk manually after downloading it from plex.tv and I get a notification on my Plex "desktop/Dashboard" whenever they have a new update ready for me, that way I can check other users experience before manually doing the update 👍 Edit: <palmface> I just noticed, when manually downloading the available .spk from plex, there was a minor update compared to what I had running </palmface>

Now might be a good time to check that your most current backup is OK ? btw: Doublecheck that the LAN cable and switch/router port in use is 100% functional.
