  1. Big thanks to everybody: @Polanskiman, @jun, @quicknick, @Trantor, @IG-88 and everybody esle involved in R&D and testing. Finally with extra.lzma my system Gigabyte Z 170 Board with Intel Pro 1000 NIC and adaptec HBA 1000 SAS Controller is fully migrated to 6.1.3. I can confirm up and running with this combination.

    DSM 6.1.x Loader

Thanks for the info IG-88! I now used your extra.lzma for a test and i can see the Diskstation. But then i also get the "No disks found" error. (no aacraid.ko in your extra.lzma). The one i was talking before is the one from Polanskiman from his first post in his install/migration tutorial: - Customized extra.lzma ramdisk. This one has the aacraid.ko in it. So is it somehow possible to transfer that aacraid.ko from one lzma to the other? (tried copy and paste from one lzma to the other via 7-zip to test: prohibited ) Thanks!

    DSM 6.1.x Loader

Hey there, i'm trying to migrate from quicknicks loader to juns loader 1.02b. Under quicknicks loader, the system is booting and running (with the missfits of being on quicknicks old, not perfect loader and an old DSM Version). I prepared a usb stick along Polanskimans tutorial for Juns 1.02b loader and it boots (can see that cia connected monitor). With the original extra.lzma i can find the NAS via Synology Assistant but it tells me "no disks found". With the alternative extra.lzma i cant find the NAS via find.synology.com or Synology Assistant (although it boots again). I compared the two extra-lzma versions and found the only two *.ko files which are present in original and not in alternate extra.lzma are "ax88179-178.ko" and "ohci-hcd". Were they forgotten in the alternate extra.lzma or is there a special cause why they are not there? I assume i need just the aacraid.ko in juns 1.02b original extra.lzma (have an adaptec HBA 1000 SAS controller). Can it just be copied from alternate .lzma to 1.02b extra.lzma or is there more to adapt? Here a description of my System: Gigabyte Z-170 Board/Celeron Onboard Realtek 8111 NIC and PCIe Intel 1000/Pro NIC (the onboard NIC is not found with both, alternate and extra.lzma, with quicknicks loader it works well) Adaptec HBA 1000 16i SAS controller (not found on Juns original 1.02b, on alternate extra.lzma i can't test because i cant see the Diskstation on the network) 8 GB Ram Thanks for any help in advance

    DSM 6.1.x Loader

Unfortunately im still on quicknicks version as al other combinations with Jun's loader versions and different extra.lzma files failed onmy System. Either my adaptec HBA 1000 16i or my onboard NIC Realtek 8111 (on Gigabyte Z170 Board) is not recognized. Can anyone recommend me a NIC Chipset, thats working for sure? Then i will buy a PCIe NIC and use that instead of the onboard for further experiments.

    DSM 6.1.x Loader

Hello, i also decided to give it a test ride. I'm on bare metal (Asus Board/Celeron/Adaptec SAS Controller/Supermicro 16 bay SAS Rackmount Case, DSM5 running flawlessly). I created a boot image and edited grub.cfg with corresponding VID/PID/SN/MAC. I unhooed all productive Drives and the DSM5 Bootstick and started over with an empty drive and the new bootstick. I get to the Diskstations starting page via find.synology.com. When i click on install it says sth like "No Disk Found, try again". Trying Synology Assistant for manual install i get Error 38 witch basically means no disk present. Tried several disks in different Bays, no change. Do i assume correctly, that my Adaptec HBA 1000-16i SAS Controller http://storage.microsemi.com/en-us/supp ... -1000-16i/ is not compatible/supported with/in the current image? If thats the case, would it be possible to inlude the driver? Or is sth else going wrong? Cheers and Thanks for every contribution to make DSM6 running on baremetal possible!!!
  10. Thank you, carlosap! Thats something i can start to read me in. I will get the EMC tomorrow and then i will see, what it still can do.
  11. I roughly know what a SAN is, and how it works. And my question was how it would be possible to make it work with XPEnology. So please post helpfull answers or nothing. THX
  12. I paid 300 but in the first place only wanted a stable and good built server rack (weighs +170 Kg empty). My intention was to play a bit around and resell the parts (a lot of them: drives, drive bays, psus, fibre channel switches, UPS's, cables) separately to compensate a bit the costs. I know that they're not sold for much and that they will not sell in short time, so meanwhile i can refresh my IT skills, last time used more than 10 years ago on similar hardware. Its not about a permanent working system, only about the how-to
  15. @Schnapps: Sure would that be something, therefore im asking @Rusty: any recommendation for a compatible Fibre Channel HBA that doesnt cost more than i paid for the Clariion?
  16. Just bought myself very cheap one of those EMC² SAN Arrays https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clariion (just to play and practice a bit with it). 49 Drives, quadruple power, double USV, two fibre channel switches and a storage controler. My first intention is to practice a bit with that stuff but it came to my mind, that i perhaps coud use that for xpenology too. Although my hopes are very low compatibility wise without knowing the exact hardware before i have it in hands and probably even after , i would be very interested if anybody is using a similar setup of hardware.
  17. Thx Benoire, that gives me already a little hint and another option/problem i wasnt thinking so far: drive numbering. Just ordered the Adaptec Controller and give it a try.
  18. Just to reach more people here a translation and summary of my question from the german section: I bought a 15-bay Supermicro 933 19" case and board, cpu and ram. To build a raid 5 with more than 8 drives (up to 15 if possible), is it the best solution to use an IBM 1015 (or similar) with an SAS expander (heard that can be trouble with large drives (8TB)), to combine 2 IBM 1015 if possible or is it even possible to add just a 1015 or non raid SATA Controller with 8 ports and use the build in SATA Ports of the mainboard parallel and let XPEnolog/DSM do the software Raid? Thx for your input
I'm lost.
Es muss also was größeres her.
