    DSM 6.2 Loader

Hello, I messed up my system a little bit after messing with trying to get the loader for DS918+ working i decided to go back to the 3617 loader but in all my back and forth i downloaded the 6.2.1 instead of the 6.2 for the ds3716 and it failed to boot and then i realized what i did wrong 🤦‍♂️ so i setup the loader the 3615 and got my system back up but now i'm having network issues with the eth2 & eth3 they are not working correctly one i was using for DHCP server thats not working for some reason now and the other is not showing the correct IP info but when i ssh in and stat the port it has the correct IP info and i can access the web UI from the web with the IP that it should have. im not sure whats causing the issue but i wanted to try and get the 3617 build back so is it possible downgrade it back to 6.2 if i can ssh into the unit and change the version info and reboot with the other loader and install the correct build this time thanks

    DSM 6.2 Loader

Thanks For the great loaders Jun and everyone else who contributes to the work I decided it was time to finally upgrade my bare metal setup to the newer builds . My hardware is a QNAP TVS-471 with 16GB of ram and a Core i5-4590 i wanted to try to get 918+ loader running on it wanted to try out the hardware transcoder for plex but i cant seem to get it working at all is there a limitation with that loader that i might be missing. I was able to load DS3615xs & DS3617xs with out issues but not the 918. So i was wondering if any one might have an idea as to what my issue could be Thanks

    DSM 6.1.x Loader

I had an odd failure yesterday with v1.02b running DSM 6.1.3-15152 update 3. I was trying to install a plex server update and that seemed to lock up the system and the web page was giving a generic synology saying the page you are looking for cant be loaded or something to that effect. I power cycled the server multiple times with no luck . i was thinking BTRFS failure or something so i pulled all drives and booted and got synology page saying no disks found and insert them. so i inserted the disks back and it prompted me to restup like my first time . to my surprise the Volume was still there and all my files seem to be intact. this was very odd my system has been running great for a while now. Any ideas on what may have happened ?
  5. I recently redid my setup after a disk failure on my Qnap TVS-471 that i wasn't using a raid setup. i decided to install xpenolgy on that. my question is there a better option of the two loaders .... DS3615xs or DS3617xs, ive tried them both and they both seem to work just wondering if one was a better choice ? since im tinkering i installed photo station threw some photos and videos into the folder. its not a program i use so to me it seems to work ok , i was able to play avi & mp4 files, how were you trying to play the videos
  6. Hello, I did a bare-metal install of Jun's Loader v1.02a w/dsm 6.1 update 2 on my QNAP TVS-471 everything seems to be working on it only thing i noticed that i didn't notice on the pc i was using it now i see a whole bunch of usb1-1 to usb1-6 disks. i remember reading about this happening but cant seem to find the solution to hide them unless there wasn't one. anyone have any info Thanks
  7. Well you have a nice box with the QNAP, they are not bad the interface isn't as nice as Synology its gotten a little better with the newest beta. I think the main issue here is the box you have is an AMD version and xpenology boot loaders don't have the proper drivers for your hardware so you might be SOL on a baremetal install but you could always run it as a virtual machine and pass the maximum resources to the VM , i think you will be surprised on how decent it will run.. You could also sell it on ebay or something else, they hold there value and then you could get the synology box you want
  8. I think as long as you can boot from a usb stick your should be good to follow the instructions from baremetal installs . I was able to get Xpenboot 5.2 working on my TVS-471 with out too many issues but i wound up going back to stock cause of a few minor issues not sure exactly what they were but i know one was i couldnt turn off the LCD screen it would always stay on and never trun off it got annoying . Not sure if you will have issues with the CPU since yours is AMD & mine was intel, i think it works for both types of CPU's but not 100% sure. you could always sell it for a real synology unit
  9. I have a silly question does this new loader have all the same compiled drivers as the xpeboot 5.2 has. I have a setup working fine on the old setup and havent looked at every device and driver yet so i was asking if all the same drivers were used on this one before i went and looked at everything
  10. It is possible , i got it to boot onto my TVS-471, not sure the exact steps that i went through. i needed a monitor and keyboard hooked up and had to get into the bios to change the boot so it wouldn't pick the internal boot rom. it was a process and in the end i didn't keep it running cause there were a few things that didnt run just right , one was the display always said booting and couldn't turn off. not that it couldn't be tweaked just didnt want to mess with it too much ..... i figured if i wanted to go back to synology i would just sell the qnap and get another synology then running the half baked SW on a QNAP, worked much better on my PC for playing around and plex

    DSM 6.1.x Loader

anyone know if my HP nic card will work with this loader ...HP NC364T
  12. How do i find out what nic drivers are included .... i have a HP NC364T that currently works under 5.2
  13. Razor237

    Working DSM 6

Does anyone know if HP NC364T 4-port nic will work
  14. Didnt work when i tried it, get a warning halfway through about cant get total number of license
  15. That page shows my Nas Cpu as Bromolow , but looking at thew download page for 7.2 there is no option for Bromolow, I have a i5 CPU. any ideas what one works i tired the x86_64 and it says wrong version for my system
  16. You should have read a bit before you updated to DSM 6. XPEnoboot has not been released for DSM 6 its only out for 5.2. if you install DSM 6 you will lose access to your volumes. I think there is a way to downgrade but not entirely sure if you will get your volumes back
  17. With the current XPEnoboot you can only run DSM 5.2 and if you install 6.0 it will boot but you cant mount or create volumes. it has been covered quite a lot. there are a few running DSM 6 but its through a virtual machine with EXI , not too sure about that since there seems to be a lot of tweaking involved so wasnt worth the messing with since 5.2 works just fine until they have DSM 6.0 on XPEnoboot
  18. true cant argue with that but as of now we are not really supporting synology also if it were something we were paying for i think there would be a bit of support for other hardware that might not be supported and other things. I dont know i like free but would gladly support a paid official version of DSM. just throwing my 2 cents around on the topic
  19. I thin one way they could sell a PC compatible DSM for DIY uses and still keep up demand for there own hardware NAS is to always have the PC DSM be a version behind of the current DSM. so DSM 6 is out now they will Sell DSM 5 for PC. They could also have the base DSM 5 and if you want the advanced features like surveillance station that would be an extra cost. You would also have to agree to using a system that might not be as reliable as synology hardware. I would gladly give them my money with in reason and only if it came from synology. I have my first xpenology server running for over 70 days. mainly used for plex with transcodeing and it has been running great much better then my other synology or my qnap. It would be great to see happen but dont think it ever will.
  20. Gotta always remember the golden rule of any custom firmware's / software is never ever take updates unless your absolutely sure its safe. patience is key
  21. The Synology router looks to offer some nice features, I had just bought a new Asus AC3100 router if i had known that synology had its own router i would have gotten that instead. now it might be possible to do the same with the router software and as was done for the NAS but is it really worth it giving the router is only 200 and i think you would wind up spending almost that much to build something similar with probably some better specs but is it needed not sure unless someone ported it to be able to install on other branded routers like DD-WRT has done for years that would be cool just not sure anyone wants to put that much work into it. i think driver support would be the real issues since most routers chipset drivers are not open source and able to be ported easily to work DD-WRT is nice and very powerful but with out some work tweaking its not going to have the traffic details and monitoring that they synology has also synology router seems to have some more in-depth web filtering and a much nicer interface. recently for the routers i've had DD-WRT has been very buggy, mostly WiFi has been shitty.
  22. Well im new here too but from how i see it is a lot of it comes down to your exact needs and knowledge for when issues arise. With a retail box you get support from synology, warranty and all updates when they are available. everything that should work with the box you have should just work. smaller overall footprint & power consumption With xpenology there is no support besides these forums which are very helpful from the browsing ive done. no warranty. not meant for production or data critical environment not to say it couldn't be used for this, xpenology seems as stable as my synology box was. updates take time to filter down to anyone running xpenology also if the people who do all the great work on this decide to stop so will the updates just the risk you take with anything like this . Not all hardware will fully work correctly with xpenology you do need to be mindful with what your getting hardware wise, i think most of the main stream stuff will work but there can be compatibility issues. Overall i think xpenology is great, I've always had synology and love there interface a bit faster and cleaner then my QNAP so xpenlogy gives me the power i needed with a nice interface. I'm still in the testing phase but so far its working good Both look good. the 415+ has better cpu and better hardware encryption so if you are going to be using the encryption the 415+ will be faster at it https://www.synology.com/en-us/products ... 15+/DS416j Hope my rambling is useful
  23. Did you have any issues with adding more camers ? I wanted to add more cameras to surveillance station but have been hesitant to buy the activation keys Razor237
  24. If a main purpose is Plex i would agree with butter_fry . CPU is very important when it comes to plex and transcoding. The only way i see to never have to transcode media was if you were going to have all your media in the perfect universal format for the devices your playing it on. Most of my media is setup for my main device with high quality full audio tracks so my server will direct play to that but all my other devices have to transcode and if your cpu isnt up to the task it can be a nightmare lol
