    DSM 6.2 Loader

Is the vid and pid in the grub.cfg important or used when running DSM on ESXi? If so what do you set it as? Thanks Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk
  2. Hello, Those of you who are running DSM on ESXi 6.5 and using RDMs, which mode did you use for your disks (Dependent, Independent - persistent or Independent - non persistent) and which disk compatibility (physical or virtual)? and why? I'd like to use Dependent so I can create a snapshot before an update for rollback, but does this work when they are large RDM drives? Anyone tried? Thanks
  3. Hi, I recently changed my baremetal DSM 6.1.3 to a VM running on ESXi 6.5 U2 on HP Gen8 MicroServer. All working fine, except I see the 50MB loader HD in the Disks in Storage Manager. Why is this? How can I hide/remove it without breaking anything? Thanks

    DSM 6.2 Loader

what does this actually do? what does MTRR Trim stand for/mean?
  5. Oh, very odd. Yeah I did a reboot, still works but disabled in the GUI. How do you see more about what the loader is doing/reporting then? I saw something about serial port but can I use the HP Gen8 MicroServer's ILO virtual serial port to see it somehow?
  6. Hi, I'm using Jun loader 1.02b - DSM 6.1.3-15152 Update 8 on HP Gen8 MicroServer baremetal. Telnet and SSH are definitely not enabled in Control Panel > Terminal & SNMP tab. But when I try to SSH to the IP, it responds with login as prompt! So is it possible to SSH to the loader itself? I have searched and searched forum and can't find clear answer to this or way to get in. Thanks
  7. I am also still wondering why they don't allow SHR by default on some models since DSM 6. I thought it was their main selling point of DSM! As far as I know not many other products can do the same thing if at all.
  8. Is it UEFI only? I thought either would work
  9. Where did you get the shutdown file from that post mentions to get WOL working? Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk With the new 6.0.x DSM my WOL is finally working, don't need any fancy SN + MAC address magic to make it work (using ASUS Merlin to send the command, even over Internet). Do you mean update 10 for 6.0.2 ?
  10. Is this just my login timing out or actually a problem? Loader 1.01 DSM 6.0.2 Update 9
  11. Where did you get the shutdown file from that post mentions to get WOL working? Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
  12. That's odd. For interest how are you changing the SN and MAC each time? Sounds like it's not saved permanently on your boot usb. Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
  13. Does that page cannot be found error or whatever it says after 1 day only happen with 3617 ?
  14. Synology is discontinuing SHR in favor of regular RAID arrays. Newer models and pretty much 6.x on Intel-based HW removes the option to create an SHR array, and offers regular RAID instead. However, existing SHR arrays will still work. Really? I did not know this. SHR is one of the big selling points imo! Why they getting rid of it?
  15. What is it for?
  16. Look still DDNS of the operator of OVH. It it seems can replace completely QC for those who have no Real of IP. Not sure what you mean and I can't read that thread unfortunately.
  17. Instead of QC it is better to make port forwarding. And all mobile applications well work for me without QC. Also there is tuned VPN (pptp, strongly wasn't distorted), which integrates my home network, parents and the village since not everywhere there is real ip and it was possible to use video surveillance normally. From my main house router port forwarding to all necessary is made. Yeah that's another way using port forwarding. I just use PPTN VPN on my router. Not all routers can do this though. You can also run a VPN server on DSM and just forward the port for that.
  18. No need to change the S/N. The serial number doesn't do anything much by itself. For QuickConnect to work the S/N needs to be paired with a Synology MAC address. I do no support the use of QuickConnect on Xpenology as it's a violation of Synology's service. For the MAC address just use the real MAC address of your NIC. Where do you see such "not authorised" message? When using QuickConnect? If so then it's normal because Synology uses a paired S/N - MAC as commented above. Ah ok thanks. Yes I'm not worried about using quickconnect as maybe a little concerned about security so just vpn into my router to access DSM. The unauthorised message appeared in DSM just moving between screens nothing in particular. Not happened since but not used it that much as only on test HP Gen8 microserver for now. I'll get screenshot if it appears again. Thanks
  19. Hi all. Great tutorial and info here. Quick question about changing the sn in the grub.cfg is this only necessary to get quickconnect to work? Where should I get a sn from or just make it up? I didn't change it from default but once I did get a message in DSM that said something like "not authorised" not sure if that's related or not. Thanks in advance.
  20. Wake on Lan works on my Gen8 but I'm running 5.2 latest not 6. Have you got it enabled in bios and ilo although not sure I had to.
  21. Yes I'm using 6tb WD reds.
  22. Are you running latest HP fw and do you have g1610t cpu? Any chance you could install virtualbox if you don't have it already to test that? I have standard gen8 but no way of testing it all on this loader with dsm6. Thanks in advance!
  23. Wondered if someone could help me. I'm trying to get this going in VirtualBox. I've imported it using the ovf file which is what I used for VMware Workstation and that works fine. In VirtualBox it doesn't come up in the console with booting the kernel bit, so I assume it's getting stuck there? I've tried all kinds of different settings, different NICs, different CPU/storage options etc but still the same. And tried the different boot options when the loader starts, including the VMware option. It's definitely not even connecting to the network. Any ideas? Thanks Virtualbox: VMware Workstation:
