  1. This topic is a big mess right now. Especially the OP. The hybrid UEFI/BIOS is listed now there, but it's the one with the old zimage?

My boxes are running right now, but for new users it's too confusing. We need to update the OP and remove the unnecessary stuff and add the loaders with the latest zimages

  2. Next problem, finally WOL working. But my backup server should shutdown after inactive use. Sometimes it seems to work. I also added a shutdown at 06:00 hour. But after every start, the date is resetted to somewhere in 2015 so the server won't shutdown. Is there a way to sync the date/time on start? With a script or something.

  3. I'm too.

Only nic 1 connect, and ilo, but that i think don't count.

The firts img i use boots well, only can't migrate/install pat file. This i burn the pen (like the other) and after 10 minutes still no ip given

I have iLo connected as well.

Have you added Jun's romdisk file and added the vid, pid, ser and mac to the grub config? And have you setup the console in bios?

If you have done all of that it should work. Did you checksum your pat file?

    Now i'm get very confused...

With setsunakawa (hybridbiosuefi2.img) what is needed? I assume with this image is burn and run in gen8 bare metal, i'm wrong?

With sweebee's image (gen8boot.img) i burn and run (the only problem i have with this is that i can't install the pat file)

Please guide me here, with any of this images is need change anything? vid, pids etc?

You MUST set the PID and VID otherwise you can't install the pat file. Open the boot usb on your pc and open /grub/grub.cfg remove the 0xXXX (something like that) and replace it with the values of the usb stick.

  4.

    Edit:

Just a thought...did you set-up WOL in the Bios?

Yes its enabled. Worked before in 5.2.

I ran a few tests and it works for me every time. Someone reported that WOL worked for them without the shutdown file being added...this didn't work for me. I just removed it in my tests and WOL fails to work when the file isn't present.

I have know idea why it's not working for you? For some reason your system isn't entering the correct sleep state and or there is an issue with your MAC address? I guess there could be something on your network that prevents the udp/magic packet broadcast? I run Eset's Endpoint and Smart Security on all my Windows machines and I have rules set to allow the WOL to be sent.

I still can't get a desktop WOL app to wake the server up which is annoying and odd?

First tried with a generated mac address and the fix for wol. Didn't work.

Then I have changed the mac address in the grub.cfg to my hardware mac address. Booted up. Shut it down in DSM. And tried to wake it up from CMS and with synonet --wake XX:XX:XX eth0 both not working.

Also everytime it boots up, it tells me that it didn't shut down properly.

  5. Maybe @jun could update the startpost with the bios bootloader included (with latest changes). And some simple instructies per bootloader whats needed and some troubleshooting/known problems. That would make it easier for new users.

Also versioning with new drivers like bootloader_esxi_0.1, bootloader_uefi_0.1 bootloader_bios_0.1 etc. Just my 2c.

  6. New problem. After successfully installing it on my main microserver gen8, in wanted to install it on my second one. But when installing with pat file, i get an error 13. "Could not install the file, file is damaged".

    Any1 seen this before?

Also my generated serial/mac on my main system doesn't work for quick connect and push services anymore. Surveillance station and file station apps work fine.

Oh stupid mee, forgot the PID/VID.

  7. Hello Everyone,

I updated to the latest release (DSM 6.0.2-8451 Update 1) without any issue whatsoever. What shocked me even more is that QuickConnect works perfectly. I set a SN, MAC, and flashed my ethernet card with the new MAC address as you would on any other XPE build and I was shocked to see everything register perfectly. Confirmed QuickConnect functionality by using iOS apps as well.

did you use an original SN+MAC or not for quickconnect to work?

i'm using pairs generated by online utilities but can't get it to work

I use a generated one and the iOS app works perfect.

  8. For me too. tried with the ubuntu live cd in vmware. mounted the boot vmdk and saved. ESXI gives me an error that the vmdk is to old.

Need an easy way to edit the mac / serial.

  9. hm followed the instructions. Installation of pat file went fine in install mode, rebooted with original boot.vmdk in run mode but its stuck here.

There is nothing more to see. It is not stuck. Just go to find.synology.com and configure via browser on another machine.

It cant find it, also when i scan my network for devices it doesnt show Up.

  10. Hi,

I found this forum today, and I have to say I enjoyed reading 54 pages of this thread ... long story short, I have managed to install latest DSM update into Virtualbox. I used all known files and experimented with cca 25 iterations until I managed to find the right one. I will play with RAID volumes next, I hope everything will work.

I extend my thanks to all experts on this forum, I hope you will all continue this great work.

    Instructions: http://www.filedropper.com/virtualboxds ... nprocedure

Feel free to update, change, improve etc ...

    Kind regards,

    Mitja

    Edit: Typo

I want to install it on virtualbox. I tried to boot from the Boot.vmdk. but it boots directly to run, can't choose install. It doesn't count down.
