You can't without freeing up a drive bay, which means offloading at least one disk's worth of data from the system.

Does he want to keep the single drives the way they are?

How big are the new disks?

Hi, he will be going to 4Tb drives, I believe he is looking at going SHR with 3 drives and a single

The 3Tb's will be added to another micro server at some point

  2. Hi all

My brother inlaw is running Xpenology on a HP G8 micro sever with with 4 x 3tb drives, the current config is 2 drives 1 and the other 2 drives as singles all drive are nearly full.He is wanting to replace all drives with larger capacity drives, what is the best method of getting all his data onto the new drives in the same machine?

  3. Hi all, my secondary NAS being a HP N40L running DSM 6.2 dies (PSU failure), rather than hunting down another PSU i am pulling a N54L out of the cupbord and will use that., am i able able to transfer the USB stick and drives directly into the new maching with out issues?

The reason i ask is I know when installing Xpenology you had to specify the MAC address of your maching in the Grub file butr obviously the N54L MAC address will not match so i am unsure if this is a show stoppper

    Thanks in advance

  4. Hi all

I have setup another machine using a Dell Presision workstation 1600 running a E31225, i have installed DSM 6.2.1-23824 update 1 DS3615xs via Juns 1.03b.

Installation went fine and i can run DSm without any iussues, the problem i am having is that when i hit shut down DSM seems to shut down (not respond) but the PC will remain running, even cheing the monitor out out pf the PC it is sitting at the prompt that it will norammly when loading but the DMS page will not come up. The get back to DSM youu have ot power off via the power button and restart.

I have tried setting up a auto power off via DSM but get the same issue the PC will not axctually power off

Edit, even restating via DSM will not come back up

Any help will be much appreciated

  7. Hi all, i am in a spot of bother.

My borther inlaw has a HP N54L microserver that had Xpenology 5.2 onboard, the PSU died se he purchased a used HP8 Gen 8 microserver to replace it, i we transfered the drives over and i set about migrating the data from 5.2 to 6.1, i followed all the instructions and the instalation got to the migrate screen where you select the DSM Pat file, at that point i left the room to sday goodbye to some visitors and my genious brother inlaw hit install, whihc installed the latest version.

When i returned to the room the NAS had rebooted, he did nt tell em he did this so i assumed somewthing went wrong so i started again, re did the boot loader and wei go back thte migration screen and seledted the 6.1 Pat file it started then came up with the folowing message, can only use 6.2.2-24922 or later.

    Is there any saving this?

  9. Hi all

We have a HP N57L that has been running for around 4 years without issue, about 2 weeks ago the PSU spat the dummy, i was looking for  a replacement and came across a great deal on a G8 Microserver.

Can i just take the bootable USB stick from the N57L and put that into the G8 along with the drives and that should be it?

Sorry if this is ion the wrong section

  10. Hi all

About 6 months back i followed the "Migrating DSM 5.2 to 6.1 Bare metal (tutorial)" tot he letter and installed onto HP Gen 8 micro server and everything worked perfectly.

A few days ago i went to log into the NAS and i received the following message "sorry the page you are looking for is not found" with the Synology logo at the top, I tried finding the box via the Synology assistant but did not work, I was considering reinstalling the bootloader and DSM and going to 6.2 but i am unsure if i will be able to migrate my data as i am not able to get into the NAS to back it up.

The original USB stick (with bootloader)has been wiped

    What do you guys suggest?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi all,

I am hoping someone can please help me with an issue I am having,

I am currently running a HP MicroSvr Gen8 G1610T with DSM 5.2 and it works perfectly, but I have come to a point where I want to update to the latest DSM being 6.1 and have come across an issue, I have followed the tutorial to a tee, I will say first off.

I took out my 5.2 DSM bootloader USD and created a new bootloader using exactly the same USB stick

I have inserted the new bootloader and started the machine I made sure it was still booting from the USB port as the first selection in the bios, the system will boot and right away try booting from NIC which is the last selection in the Bios, even if I reboot and go into the boot menu and select boot from USB it will still try and boot from the NIC, it looks like the USB stick for some reason is not bootable

I do not any further than the machine trying to boot from the NIC

I have used both Win32diskimager and Rufus to create bootloader images

As soon as I put my original 5.2 bootloader back in, it will boot from that no issues at all

    Please help guys

Sorry guys, i got it fixed, it turned out to be the bloody USB stick, Damn same as my 5.2 DSM and I tired 2 of them, I tried another Sandisk (different model) and it worked
