  1. I've been running xpenology on bare hardware for a long time, but I'm thinking of switching to proxmox. My goal is to merge my Plex server into the xpenology server with a passthru GPU for transcoding. My current xpenoloy server is a older Xyratec Hs-1235t running 12 drives off the same lsi controller. (It's been really stable, running DSM 6.1.6-15266, and 2 or 3 virtual machines on VMM) The system I've put together for proxmox is the following. Supermicro X9DRW-iF motherboard, Dual E5-2620v2, 32GB ram, in a 12Bay Hotswap case. Paired with a LSI SAS2008 HBA, with the other 4 xpenology drives hooked to the Motherboard 6 port sata controller. Proxmox is installed on the 4 Port SCU controller off the motherboard. So I have a total of 14 drive ports available for xpenology. (Proxmox is installed on 2 ssd's on a zfs raid mounted internally, so I still have my 12 hotswap bays for xpenology) I've got PCIe passthru working, and I've got debian 10 running with the LSI and the 6 port sata controller passed to that virtual machine. My questions are, is passthru the way to go in this situation? Or should I just do the map by disk ID instead? Any advantages/disadvantages on each method?

    DSM 6.1.x Loader

Ok, trying all day with the DS3617xs images, and I keep getting the "Failed to install the file. The files is probably corrupted. (13)" message. I've tried multiple usb keys, same results. But using the DS3615xs image (v1.02a) it installs fine using the DSM_DS3615xs_15101 pat file. Writing out the DS3617xs image to the same key and making the same changes to grub.cfg always fails to install. System is a intel S1200KP server board, xeon 1225 cpu with 16gb ram and an HP HP 412648-B21 dual gig ethernet card. Fresh install, no data on system. Playing with 2 2tb drives.

    Working DSM 6

Thanks, that worked perfect. I wonder why the change in version 6? Is it just something with xpenology? Later, dabone

    Working DSM 6

I'm trying to use SHR, with one disk redundancy. It seems some people can use this, while others can't. I have no option for SHR when creating a raid volume. I have 0/1/5/6/10/Basic/JBOD options only. What configs has Hybrid raid worked on? Later, dabone

    Working DSM 6

I've installed 6 using the "DSM 6.0.2 Loader ( was "A new loader for latest DSM")" I'm using a Intel S1200KP motherboard, Xeon 1225 Cpu, 16GB ram and 4 sata HDDS connected to the motherboard. I also have a secondary NIC card using the 82571eb chipset. Install was very easy, I modded the img file grub config and changed the vid/pid and and added the Mac's for all 4 intel nics. Then during the first boot I added the append SataPortMap=4 Right after install, I upgraded the the latest DSM "DSM 6.0.2-8451 Update 4" The only issue I'm having is that I can't create a volume without creating a raid set. I've tried AHCI and raid modes on the controller. All the drives are seen fine, just no option to create the volume. it says "The is no RAID Group in your system, please go to RAID Group tab to create a new RAID group first." Any suggestions? Thanks, later, dabone
  6. Same issue using a S5500BC server board, dual xeon, 24GB ram, and 6 4TB Drives in a sas expander backplane. LSI Controller in IT mode, it sees all drives, and all looks fine, until I click next on the perform disk check screen. It then shows the next screen, and the Network error. After that I can't click apply.
