  1. If your array was configured with 1 disk fault tolerance, might still be possible to recover data. But you probly won't be able to rebuild the array since it will be in a degraded state & DSM messed up. If data is important, I would try -Boot into a Ubuntu live USB & try to mount the array as read only. https://kb.synology.com/en-br/DSM/tutorial/How_can_I_recover_data_from_my_DiskStation_using_a_PC -If data is accessible, get a new hard drive that can hold all of the data, or at least your most important stuff. -Copy data to new drive -Reinstall Xpenology/DSM, setup & format from scratch -Manually recreate shares & copy data back from new drive.
  2. I have a XPEnology server with 3x 2TB drives. I had an error message saying that one disk was failing. I powered off the server, & put the drives in my Windows computer to run SMART to see which one was failing so I could send it back for warranty replacement. Once I determined what drive (disk 1) was failing, I put the other two back into the server & turned it on to create a backup of important files. But I notice some of my data seems to be corrupt, as some videos do not playback. And disk 3 shows a "System Partition Failure" error. So I decided to put the failing drive back in, in hopes of being able to recover data. But now the failing drive is showing as unused with a "System Partition Failure" error also. If I run the file system check, will this allow me to recover the data or will it corrupt the data even further. I have attached screenshots of the disk & volume information. I'm thinking I should not have rebooted the machine without putting a new hard drive in for synology to rebuild the raid array. Any tips/help would be greatly appreciated.
  3. Well still no luck mounting the drives. But thankfully, I am able to recover most of my data because the 4th drive that I added was a drive from my old Diskstation. Which was setup in a 2x 2TB configuration so that 1 drive contained all of my data (up until about 3 weeks ago). So I was able to recover my data (and file structure) using R-Studio with pretty much no issues. Sucks I lost 3 weeks worth of data... but any data is better than no data.
  4. I just added a new drive to my diskstation, bringing the total drive count to 4. And it shutdown due to overheating (forgot to plug the CPU fan back in :/) during the volume expansion process. When I turned the DiskStation back on, all of the drives were showing as unused & there were no volumes listed. I tried using the steps at https://www.synology.com/en-us/knowledgebase/faq/579 to try & recover the data but I am unable to mount the drives. Is there any way of recovering my data, or is it a lost cause?
  5. I'm having trouble getting the DNS server to work. It is a new installation of XPEnology running DSM 5.2-5592. The DNS Server says it is running but when doing an nslookup it says: Server failed I also have a DiskStation DS212j running with DNS server working so I went through & configured them both the same. So I don't think configuration is an issue. Also tried doing all the updates to update 3. Still nothing, then did update 4. Uninstalling & reinstalling DNS server doesn't help either. I also tried looking at the iptables using: #iptables -L -vt nat But I get this: I'm kind of a noob when it comes to linux so any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
