I have asked this question myself! The answer is no. It needs the usb to trick the software "DSM" to think that is a real synology box. Extra: I have tested installing a new image on a new usb, everything boots fine no data loss. I also run my box on SHR1, I have removed and hd and booted no data loss, system alert me degraded to insert a hard drive. Even more I wiped the hd and re insert it the array rebuild with no problems.

How can I install the power button script?

So currently I boot my my bare metal system thry XP USB Image. The question I have is, does XPEnoboot boots without usb? and if it does how can i upgrade from XPENOLOGY to EPnoboot would my Hard drive pool get messed up? I currently have 5 drives in a pool on volume 1, when i installed the .pat i installed it on a separate hard drive assuming it installs on the hard drive that it was plugged in when installation occured. So basicaly my pool is separate from the DMS installation.

Hello guys, if i could get the attention of the admins. I've never donated any money to any projects, neither paid for any software always downloaded. But i really would love to donate something to this community. Not only I'm grateful I'm loving XPEnology. Again thank you so much for making this possible. Hello guys, I wanted to thank you guys here on XPEnology. I used windows home server v1, windows home server 2011, windows server 2012 essentials, lubuntu, ubuntu and lastly freenas. I would never paid the money synology charges for one of their systemsm, thank you so much for making this possible.
