  1. Yes I think you're right. I was not able yet to dive deeper into it and I will try my best to resolve this. My first goal was to compile open-vm-tools by myself and as I did not find ANYTHING about it on how to reach this goal it really took me months of work to find out. There are a few people who already compiled the open-vm-tools for DSM in the past but unfortunately none of them have posted anything about a how-to neither did anyone of them anwer a single question I asked. That being said I wanted to share as much as possible what I have found out and I am thankful for anyone contributing and improving to this. Like I already mentioned, I am not a compiling expert and I am still learning about it and I am willing to learn. The more people contributing to this the more reliable this will work in the future with newer versions of open-vm-tools.

  2. Thank you ! Just a remark about : mv: cannot stat '/spksrc/spk/open-vm-tools/work-apollolake-6.2/install/var/packages/open-vm-tools/target/etc/vmware-tools/vm-support': No such file or directory Simply execute the following command... mkdir -p /spksrc/spk/open-vm-tools/work-apollolake-6.2/install/var/packages/open-vm-tools/target/etc/vmware-tools/vm-support ...and repeat the make command (don't worry, it will continue where it last stopped and does not start from beginning again): I think it is not a folder but a file, it exists in scripts/common/ from open-vm-tools tar. Maybe I'm wrong ? I guess something has to be fixed with this missing file in the build project... ?

  3. Success at last! CSM is turned off, UEFI boot only. I edited the 2nd partition, replaced the extra and extra2 with the driver extension ones, burned the image again and now i was able to get network connectivity. At first attempt it just booted up like my old diskstation, i had to select "Restore diskstation" in the Find.synology.com - This brought my old config back but all my data drives had "System partition" warning on them. Rebooted and this time selected the "reinstall" option in the USB, found it in find.synology.com and this time i could select migrate first, and then either keep settings or reinstall.. I selected reinstall and it formatted etc, but when it uploaded the manually downloaded file it failed with "File is probably corrupt" - But i know for a fact its not. Rebooted again, this time selecting the normal boot option, again i could find it in find.synology.com and had the migration option again, and for some reason the reinstall procedure worked here, it accepted the same file as i tried before and the diskstation is now successfully re-installed on the new motherboard, and the 10GBe is functioning Thanks a bunch guys @IG-88 and @flyride

  4. ahh, ok thats good to hear i'd suggest checking the disks with a tool from the manufacturer and removing every partition so you will have a complete fresh install and volumes if you use loader 1.02b and dsm 6.1 you dont have to bother about uefi/csm if the hardware is at least 4th gen intel (haswell) you could use 1.04b 918+ with 6.2.3 (there are no information about the hardware you use) the normal affordable home units are a little under powered and can't be much extended beside too expansive external synology disk enclusures (no pcie slots) but the hardware is reliable, if you have a more basic nas in mind without VM's or docker its not a bad choice Qnap does more or less have the same but some better extendability like pcie slots (for 10g nic and nvme) in smaller units, nvme as data volume (synology only supports that as cache)

  5. I failed to create backup task via Hyper backup, it show that "The operation failed. Please log in to DSM again and retry." I restarted NAS and uninstall the Hyper backup and reinstall back but not working.
