mgrobins Posted April 18, 2017 Share #151 Posted April 18, 2017 Tahnks IG-88 I will be keen to see how this goes with the 3617xs as I still can't get it functioning. Also, Synonet is broken as of a recent patch by Synology.... so a perl script or some such will be needed for WoL.
IG-88 Posted April 18, 2017 Share #152 Posted April 18, 2017 why should 3617xs be a problem? its also 6.1 an there is kernel source availible https://sourceforge.net/projects/dsgpl/ ... z/download you would just compile the evdev.ko in the same way as for 3615xs and thats it
mgrobins Posted April 19, 2017 Share #153 Posted April 19, 2017 THanks. I am really not a Linux person so I'm learning as I go . I have the file and will revisit the other threads though I see it's different to the one I was attempting to install previously (acpi-button-dsm5.2.tgz) Also, I note Trantor commented that it is now in the latest release and just needs to be activated? THis was the linked workaround but I am not sure which steps are still relevant with the file you provided to compile (yours compiles a script?) http://xpenology.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=889#p7305
IG-88 Posted April 19, 2017 Share #154 Posted April 19, 2017 you are refferencing to something that was for DSM 5.2 and is from 2013 i was refferencong to something that is proven to work with DSM 6.0 from 10/2016 http://files.arcao.com/xpenology/power-off.tar.gz http://xpenology.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=75404#p75404 and http://xpenology.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=76373#p76373 btw. i have updated my psoting with a link to the compiled evdev.ko so with the "power-off.tar.gz" and my evdev.ko it will all be what's needed to get the button shutdown working for dsm 6.1 image for ds3615xs Also, I note Trantor commented that it is now in the latest release and just needs to be activated? what is in the lastest release? what realease? there is new stuff on a daily base, any link what you refferencing to? this? viewtopic.php?p=51683#p51683 "... button.ko and evdev.ko will be added to the next boot-loader ..." (from 1/2106) trantor seems not to provide bootloaders any more, the actual stuff is build/provided by jun and in his builds there is only the button.ko, no evdev.ko (and because nobody was providing one atm i tryed it myself)
Olegin Posted April 20, 2017 Share #155 Posted April 20, 2017 (edited) To IG-88: Can you give your evdev.ko? P.S. Sorry, I found it. Edited April 21, 2017 by Guest

Also, I appreciate your assistance but it is challenging when you answer in a manner of speaking to an experienced Linux user. I have not used it routinely for over 20 years. I cannot find your "updated evdev.ko" but I do have the download from arcao. Once I get your evdev.ko I can overwrite the one in Arcao's tar file and then unpack it to the root directory as per his instructions here? http://xpenology.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=76373#p76373 "Or download updated power-off.tar.gz. Then restart your nas or start acpid daemon with: CODE: SELECT ALL /usr/local/etc/rc.d/S30acpid.sh start" Sorry, yes I was referencing TRantor's comment as you surmised.... I guess it is hard to keep track of the timeline or change management for the extras we all look to add onto the main bootloader. At least with Jun providing one central loader and adding these things in progressively there is a sense of configuration management / QA but it's just a bit of time lag . IG-88 Posted April 20, 2017 Share #157 Posted April 20, 2017 in this thread i just refferenced to another were i originaly wrote about button shutdown with dsm 6.1 yes it does, for 6.0 it seems longer known to work (->Arcao), 6.1 tested yesterdayviewtopic.php?f=2&t=20216&p=98854#p98854 and there i added the link hi,... edit: uploaded the evdev.ko for DSM_DS3615xs_15047 (DSM 6.1 bromolow) http://s000.tinyupload.com/?file_id=937 ... 8913451187 i did not write much (more nothing) about how to install the power-off.tar.gz, i was just asuming people will do it as written for 6.0 somewhere else (where the link for the power-off.tar.gz comes from), the only diiference is that you dont use the two *.ko files from power-off.tar.gz yes a board and posts are not as usefull as a howto but its often work in progress and its sometime hard to get the picture without knowing the history or reading al lot of posts last weekend i only had the thin memory how i did it over 2 years ago with dsm 5.0 (which is still running), "just" had to find/read how it was done with 6.0 and try that with 6.1 i think the normal case will be a permanently running dsm box, i dont expect that many people will use the power button option if they have to tinker with ssh directly on the console, most people want a easy usable system with easy webinterface and useful plugins
mgrobins Posted April 21, 2017 Share #158 Posted April 21, 2017 THank you for taking the time to clarify . For me the power button is useful for when I am doing work on my gear and may want to power off and also while i'm doing some testing at the moment. I think it's also good to learn a bit more about the ssh / command line stuff so I can install some of the packages and tweak things that may be of benefit. I don't run my nas 24/7 ..... which is also why I'm hoping we get the WoL fixed soon (Synonet) so I can have this running my backups etc once I'm finished building it. THankfully I think waking the nas is functioning just fine. THis is still an experimental build for me so I won't be swapping out my current NAS until I'm very happy with this. I also need to produce a hardware review on it as some parts were sponsored .

I'll review the previous thread to work out how to unpack it into the root folder. On reboot S30acpid.sh will run automatically? I read the above as manually starting it if I have a system I don't want to restart. Correct?

wer Posted April 27, 2017 Share #162 Posted April 27, 2017 After posting an archive file for DSM 6.1 in the loader thread already more than one month ago (which obviously got quite lost) I decided now to create an easy to install power button package. See this thread.
