Jun's Alpha Loader for DSM 6.1

don't try to install 6.1.1 if the updater suggests it, 6.1.1 uses a new kernel 15101 instead of 15047 from 6.1 so jun 1.0.2a/a2 will not work

Not sure to what kernel you are referring to but:

Linux kernel in 6.0.2 is 3.10.77

Linux kernel in 6.1 is 3.10.102

Linux kernel in 6.1.1 is still 3.10.102

as synology used a new build/branche number 15101 and the update did not work on my test vm i thought it might be because synology used a new kernel version to build 15101

is there a way to know that just by looking at the branche number or a file in the new *.pat that can be checked?

If source code is available you will fine the proper kernel version in the MAKEFILE.

In the case of 6.1.1 since source code is not available and we only have the compiled kernel, you can extract the content of the .PAT file and look in rd. Search for the string

vermagic=

What is after the = should be the linux kernel version used.

Right now I collect all stuff that I have in my basement and saw that for a NAS I only need a CPU and a case. All other things are here. I order right now a i5 4570T and a SilverStone CS380. Rest that I have is 32 GB RAM (was for a different project but that dies) with a MSI Z87-G43. Hopefully CPU and Case will come next week. Than I can build up a bare metal NAS. Think the DS3615 is best image (USB) for that.

How are people finding the current latest DSP update on this loader in Bare metal installs?

Most of the concerns I have seen in this thread have related to VM's.

I've only been using basics while building my server but will now start pushing things a bit more. So far I think the basics of networking, shares, smb etc all seem fine.

As an aside - DSM suggests using 4k sector size for a windows environment. What gives best performance as I get a message indicating some of my drives are not native 4k? (I'm using Seagate Ironwolf 4TB NAS Drives). My file transfer is generally across SMB to windows machines or to another NAS (RSYNC).

One short question. Right now I am using a LSI 9211-8i. This have a IT firmware installed. SO the raid will be installed at DSM. If I would like to change this with a HP P440, who will handle the raid disk? DSM or P440? What is the better controller? The P440 is really cheap at ebay.

Don't know why you HAD to buy a i5 4570T for your bare metal NAS? I mean a Pentium or even a Celeron CPU can do the same job.

Link please?

hi. new loader good work on virtualbox, but i have problem with bare metal installation.

loader v1.02a2

errors:

in Assistant - error 21

in web - error 13

i can acsess to machine via Telnet, and got some logs

http://www67.zippyshare.com/v/VfgeTAsG/file.html

http://www41.zippyshare.com/v/ZvoJ27dN/file.html

I have the same problem. Successfully used loader v1.02a2 on ESXi 6.5, but when experimenting with the same loaded on baremetal, got error 13. I have correctly set the PID/VID in grub.cfg so not sure what the problem is. I am using a Dell T20 with a Pentium G3220, 16 Gb of ECC RAM and 2x2 TB WD Reds.

I have compiled a few more network modules and firmwares. This is for loader v1.02a (3615xs only) (see below for details). Compilation was done with DSM 6.1 source code and tool chain.

Simply replace the default extra.lzma ramdisk in the loader with this one. I left all modules that were compiled by Jun as is.

I am not sure if all the modules that I compiled are working fine since I do not have the corresponding hardware. Give it a shot.

In fact I did compile a few others but I am getting some unknown symbols and I do not have time to debug. In case some might want to look into it here is the list of modules which failed to compile properly and the dmesg log:

Hi to the esxi 6.5 user.

I got something strange. After start of the VM it looks good, but round about 10sec later the network connection disappeared? Can someone explaine this, or ideas to fix it?

So 3617 is the most recommended, what's about the 917 loader?

Gesendet von meinem SM-G900F mit Tapatalk

Neither of the two. I recommend using 3615xs.

Ok, i will try again from scratch

I have an old P5WDH-Deluxe running smoothly on DSM 6.0.2-8451 Update 9.

Does the Gigabit LAN Marvell 88E8053 driver is included in Jun's Loader ? Does it support Intel 975X and Intel ICH7R ?

Thanks

just try it. disable all useless devices in bios (like com, lpt, usb 3.0, other stuff) and try to install on single useless disk

recommend begin from 3615 DSM 6.0.2 v1.01 loader and next try to 3615 DSM 6.1 v.1.02a
