Intel Hyper-Threading Technology

Hello all!

My system has 2 x Intel Xeon E5-2418L processors that are 4 cores each with hyper threading to give each CPU a total of 8 threads per CPU.

Now, while these seem to work brilliantly, I wanted to ask if anyone out there can tell me why it appears that Xpenology doesn't seem to "see" the hyper threaded cores? If i open up HTOP in an SSH window, it shows 8 cores total which im assuming at this point are the 2 x 4 cores of each CPU.

Running "more /proc/cpuinfo" outputs what you see below showing the correct CPU, but only showing 4 cores.

Afaik Xpenology is limited to 4 cores

Im not sure that is the case as i can see 8 cores total, 4 cores from each of the CPU's. Though i should be seeing double the total threads.

It may be something along the lines of a config file somewhere as i believe the most powerful appliance that Synology do is the RS18016xs+ https://www.synology.com/en-us/products/RS18016xs+ that has the Intel Xeon E3-1230 V2 CPU which is a quad core with hyper-threading to give it 8 threads total. http://ark.intel.com/products/65732/Intel-Xeon-Processor-E3-1230-v2-8M-Cache-3_30-GHz

Though i may be wrong! Hence why i thought i would see if anyone else knows.

Xpenology can only see 8 cores. I have a 2630lv3 with hypertheading turned off so I use the real cores only.

Are you sure its not just a visual limitation in GUI? What does it show, with HT turned on, when you type cat /proc/cpuinfo into console?

I run mine inside ESXI vm with 4 cores set for this VM and it only shows 2 the website, but it still shows all 4 from console. So, it looks like a static preset value for some cpu that is used on real Syno boxes.
