Hi guys, I've been very happy about the server, but the time has come. It's not strong enough to transcode media anymore and I'm looking for something new which is also affordable. Any suggestions?

Hello XPEnology, I've just bought a new NAS on which I wish to use XPEnology. Reading through numerous How-to guides, I'm still not 100% sure on the way I am going to do this, as there seems to be so many options, so I thought I'd ask here before going on. 1) Is there a updated guide somewhere which relates to the newest version that XPEnology supports? (Read that there was instances of the newest version being locked from Synology) 2) Solution to installing without USB drive. Can this be done to work without a small USB drive connected for reboots? (I saw this filename: XPEnoboot 5.2-5644.4 DS3615xs, and thought it might be possible)

Alright. So even if I choose to deselect the SHR option and make it RAID0, I would still be able to install the 2 new disks on N54L, and afterwards add the other 2 RAID0 disks to the system?

For the typical RAID that is easier to install all the drives first, but Synology SHR RAID and drive/volume manager makes it very easy to expand or reconfigure RAID, although it may take a long time (many hours). If you value your data, don't use RAID0. Go straight with SHR, which will be RAID1 (Mirror) for two disks and later changed to RAID5 for 3+ disks automatically. Performance on N54L will be more than enough with SHR (RAID5) to fully saturate your 1Gb links. As things are now, I only use the NAS for media server for clients all over the house. My point is, that if one of the disks break down, I can just replace it, and it's not the end of the world, as I can just download the media again. That being said, everyone recommends not using RAID0, even though I can't use 100% of the diskspace. Is the performance difference drastic in any way, and how much space would the SHR take up off 4x 3 TB RED's.

ReadyNAS has different partition layout than Synology and direct migration will not work. You best bet would be to setup N54L with only two new drives first, then transfer your data to new NAS and finally remove two older drives from ReadyNAS, clean them up and add them to your new N54L expanding its volume to all four disks. Alright, that sounds like the best bet. I always heard, that you should never just install partial HDD's, but install everything together, but that doesnt matter I guess?

I have a ReadyNAS Ultra 2 at the moment, and wish to change to N54L. I currently have two 3TB RED's installed with RAID0. Can I buy 2x 3 TB RED's more and insert them together with the other ones, or do I need to completely swipe everything alltogether, and start fresh? I would like like to keep all the data somehow.

It's not possible to install it directly to the harddrive? Maybe through the custom bios build?

Hello, As the title says, I wish to format the whole thing, because I wish to use the full capacity of the drives I have installed. I remember at installation it was possible to tick a box, that I wanted to untick. How can I format the drives and start over?

One thing.. If I remove the USB stick and reboot, nanoboot won't startup, it will just stand there blinking on a empty page with this symbol: _ Do I leave the USB stick in always, or how do I handle this?

I'm not getting to the Synology Assistant. I think that I might not get the Nanobooter loaded completely. It says in the end: "Execution Error" DiskStation login: _

So I just bought a HP ProLiant MicroServer and booted up the NanoBoot 4528, which seemed to install fine. When it stops, it promts me for login details. I have searched all over for login and passwords. I have tried all the standard logins; admin, root, blank , administrator. With passwords from; password, admin, root, default, "blank" Can anyone help?
