  1. Thanks, Gex. I can install a clean DSM6.1 on a VM from scratch, so I think 1.02a partially work. I like your idea to to upgrade to 6.1 with 1.01 first. Then at some stage afterward, I switch to 1.02a. I will have a try.
  2. hi Gex, Thanks for your update. However, I couldn't migrate the xpenology from 6.0.2 bootloader. Are you able to do that? I can find my xpenology by synology assistant before upgrade. I can install the pat file. However, after the pat file is uploaded, the vm restarts. After that, synology assistant is not able to find the xpenology anymore. Cheers, kitmsg
  3. Thanks Gex for the update for v1.02a 1. Read the original post announced by jun: http://xpenology.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=20216 2. Download the bootloader v1.01 (DSM 6.0.2-8451) or bootloader v1.02a (alpha version for DSM 6.1-15047): https://mega.nz/#F!yQpw0YTI!DQqIzUCG2RbBtQ6YieScWg 3. Unzip the package. We will need 2 files: synoboot.img and synoboot.vmdk 4. Create a Virtualbox VM: 4.1 Operation System: Other Linux (64bit) 4.2 Create 2 Storage Controller: a) IDE: Mount the file synoboot.vmdk b) SCSI: Create a new harddisk for your data storage (Has to be SCSI, otherwise it won't work!) 4.3 Setup the network: a) Bridge or NAT, it's up to you b) Expand the Advanced option c) Adapter type: Intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop (8254OEM) d) MAC Address: 0011322CA785 (This is the most important setting to make your Xpenology accesssible!) 5. Start the VM, press F12 to enable the boot menu 6. Boot from IDE harddisk 1 7. In the gnub menu, select the last option (xxx VMware xxx) 8. Wait around 2~5 minutes, depends on your Hardware spec. The bootloader only show around 10 lines of message. Don't worry. Be patient and it's still loading the system. 9. Install synology assistant. Press Search button 10. You should see your new DiskStation now. If not, wait for another 1 or 2 minutes 11. The most important step! Verify the MAC address shown in the Synology Assistant. Make sure it's the same as the one you set in step 4.3d above. 12. Here you go, do what you usually do to a Synology system to install the DSM. Enjoy!
  4. I think this is not a usual use case so nobody borther to look into the resolution...
  5. i looked at fdisk -l, i found that first 4.5g is mount ad swap and root... I want to install a web server and a vpn client to my synology vpn servrt, so i dont really need any data storage...
  6. I mean I want to boot up a xpenology with a USB boot disk, and then install the whole DSM into another SD Card/usb disk. Is it feasible?
  7. I think it might sound a bit crazy but anyone has some creative idea on how to Install Xpenology into a 4G SSD hard drive, please?
  8. Hi all, I have a eeepc 701 having 4G SSD imternal disk. Apparently it's not big enough to install DSM. Is there anyway to emulate a USB thumb drive as an internel hard drive so I can install dsm in this thumb drive? So eventually I will have a USB thumb to boot up the xpenology, and then DSM installed on another USB thumb. Is it acheiveable? Thanks, Ray
  9. Oh! I have it turned on in the bios so it explains why it is not working in xpeology!! I thoughy by turning it on it meaning OS is allowed to implement ACPI I will try! Thanks a lot!
  10. Thanks a lot for following up! So does it mean we couldnt enable this ACPI fuction from BIOS?
  11. My Xpenology is running on ntel D510MO. As far as I am aware of, I cant find an option to enable power mgnt by os. Perhaps it explains my problem.

  13. Hi all, I can't create any file/folder under the cpu0 folder, could anyone shed me some light on it, please? 14. Suggest you to test it by building a simple raid with unused harddisk with xpenology, then move it to a real synology box. From my point of view, it should work, as if you migrate a old synology model to a new model, you will need to migrate and install dsm, the raid structurenshould be the same so real synology should be able to pick it up
