  1. I only found the option to hide files to accounts with no permission. But how does that work? My CIFS user can still see all files, even if they're owned by root. Only way I can make this work is through custom permissions in file browser, but I would need to set this for 100+ files so that's not very practical Edit: Ok I found out how this works, I need to remove all permissions with chmod a-r myfile If I do that it's still visible on the DSM file browser with my admin account, but on the CIFS account it's gone. Thanks for the tip!
  2. I had VMM installed too and I think you need to remove the cluster before you uninstall, I did this and I could uninstall with no problem. But if you forced the uninstall without removing it from the cluster it possibly broke your installation :(. If you have access to another Diskstation I would try to install VMM there and try to remove it from the cluster there, but I don't know if that is possible.
  3. Hello, I am storing a file in nearly all my directories to store some custom data (metadata, md5 hash etc.). I would like to hide these files from the File Station and the CIFS share, latter I can do through explorer but that's a bit annoying to do for that much files and it's also not hiding on DSM. The preceding dot like on other Linux systems doesn't seem to work for DSM so does someone know how I could hide files otherwise?
  4. Hello, I'm planning to use Virtual Machine Manager on my XPenology System (latest version). But as far as I know you have to have 2 network interfaces. Is that true? And no way around that? I'm using a consumer motherboard with only one ethernet interface. I don't really get why you need that second ethernet interface to run virtual machines. Does VMM not have support for a network bridge? I hope someone who is already running this can clarify that for me. Thanks
  5. Hi, I just set up a DSM under ESXi yesterday and everything worked fine, I installed my data drive from an older baremetal install and mounted it with RDM, repaired the system partition, updated to newest DSM Update 4 (using the newest loader from Jun), etc. But today I noticed the HDD light flashing every few seconds (no other VM is accessing the VM drive), and I saw that the kern.log got written all the time with these few lines: 2017-05-30T15:40:55+02:00 DS_Kevin kernel: [53334.584188] synoscgi_______[20500]: segfault at 7f242bd89db4 ip 00007f1fb2d15eea sp 00007ffe5909b9b0 error 4 in ld-2.20-2014.11.so[7f1fb2d0d000+21000] 2017-05-30T15:40:55+02:00 DS_Kevin kernel: [53334.584913] synoscgi_______[20497]: segfault at 7f242bd89db4 ip 00007f1fb2d15eea sp 00007ffe5909b9b0 error 4 in ld-2.20-2014.11.so[7f1fb2d0d000+21000] 2017-05-30T15:40:57+02:00 DS_Kevin kernel: [53336.594013] SYNO.Core.Polli[20523]: segfault at 7f286b5e67cc ip 00007f1fb2d15eea sp 00007ffe5909cd90 error 4 in ld-2.20-2014.11.so[7f1fb2d0d000+21000] 2017-05-30T15:40:57+02:00 DS_Kevin kernel: [53336.595800] SYNO.Finder.Fil[20524]: segfault at 7f242bd89db4 ip 00007f1fb2d15eea sp 00007ffe5909c630 error 4 in ld-2.20-2014.11.so[7f1fb2d0d000+21000] 2017-05-30T15:40:57+02:00 DS_Kevin kernel: [53336.600190] SYNO.Core.Syste[20533]: segfault at 7f242bd89db4 ip 00007f1fb2d15eea sp 00007ffe5909c9a0 error 4 in ld-2.20-2014.11.so[7f1fb2d0d000+21000] 2017-05-30T15:41:04+02:00 DS_Kevin kernel: [53343.579945] SYNO.Core.Polli[20529]: segfault at 7f286b5e67cc ip 00007f1fb2d15eea sp 00007ffe5909cd90 error 4 in ld-2.20-2014.11.so[7f1fb2d0d000+21000] 2017-05-30T15:41:04+02:00 DS_Kevin kernel: [53343.581315] SYNO.Finder.Fil[20530]: segfault at 7f242bd89db4 ip 00007f1fb2d15eea sp 00007ffe5909c630 error 4 in ld-2.20-2014.11.so[7f1fb2d0d000+21000] 2017-05-30T15:41:07+02:00 DS_Kevin kernel: [53346.581323] SYNO.Core.Syste[20541]: segfault at 7f242bd89db4 ip 00007f1fb2d15eea sp 00007ffe5909c9a0 error 4 in ld-2.20-2014.11.so[7f1fb2d0d000+21000] 2017-05-30T15:41:10+02:00 DS_Kevin kernel: [53349.577165] SYNO.Finder.Fil[20538]: segfault at 7f242bd89db4 ip 00007f1fb2d15eea sp 00007ffe5909c630 error 4 in ld-2.20-2014.11.so[7f1fb2d0d000+21000] This looks pretty scary, but I have no idea what that is. But it got worse: now, without even changing anything I can't reach the DSM website, it just says "Site not found" with the Synology logo, SSH access still works. /volume1 is empty except "@datastore". I really hope anyone can help me here, I'm new with ESXi
  6. Hi, I'm planning on moving to a hypervisor installation with DSM and some other OS'es. Which hypervisor works best with DSM? I thought I'd use Proxmox because it's free and has a web interface, but if ESXi is performing better I'd rather use that. I would just want to know if anyone has experience with that topic and could give me some recommendations Thanks for your answers, Fizz
  7. Hello, I'm planning to move from standard DSM 6 installation to virtualisation because I need a few things running and would like to keep them seperate. I discovered Proxmox and it looks pretty nice, so I would like to know if it can run DSM flawlessly. More specifically I need the disk hibernation to work so that the hdds stop spinning after a period of non-access. Has someone experience with this or actually DSM running inside Proxmox? Also does this virtualization need much ressources? I have a dual core Pentium (G4400) with Hyperthreading, VT-d and 4gb ram. I would really like to know if this works, if it works good or wether I should use some other hypervisor?
  8. Hi There There are allot of services or packages that prevent hdd hibernation from occurring. I also have a Gen8 but never saw my drives enter hibernation. I have a real synology DS216J and it does hibernate the drives....but very rarely. Like once or twice a day maybe, sometimes not at all for 2 or 3 days. So it depends very much on what services or packages you are using. I found this on the Synology site which might help explain this : https://www.synology.com/en-global/knowledgebase/DSM/tutorial/General/What_stops_my_Synology_NAS_from_entering_System_Hibernation I have literally removed all packages and disabled all services, no difference. It's a pretty fresh install, too. I installed ipkg and iotop to monitor what is accessing the drive, and I see at the top: TID PRIO USER DISK READ DISK WRITE SWAPIN IO> COMMAND 4491 be/3 root 0.00 B/s 3.90 K/s 0.00 % 0.60 % [jbd2/md0-8] 12830 be/4 root 0.00 B/s 0.00 B/s 0.00 % 0.04 % [kworker/1:2] 4679 be/4 root 0.00 B/s 15.61 K/s 0.00 % 0.00 % syslog-ng -F --worker-threads= The top one, jbd2, is appearing up there every 2-3 seconds and disappears in the same second just to come again. This is fitting with the hdd led lighting up every few seconds, too. After a quick search i found out it is a journaling block service for ext4, but what is causing this to appear every few seconds? Could that be the service constantly accessing the drive? Or could it be this syslog-ng? Edit: Seems like it is constantly writing this into kern.log as well as messages: 2017-02-15T19:34:08+01:00 DS_Kevin kernel: [ 2253.772455] ACPI Error: [PGRT] Namespace lookup failure, AE_NOT_FOUND (20130328/psargs-359) 2017-02-15T19:34:08+01:00 DS_Kevin kernel: [ 2253.772459] ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed [\_GPE._L6F] (Node ffff8801690b5ec0), AE_NOT_FOUND (20130328/psparse-537) 2017-02-15T19:34:08+01:00 DS_Kevin kernel: [ 2253.772465] ACPI Exception: AE_NOT_FOUND, while evaluating GPE method [_L6F] (20130328/evgpe-580) These 3 lines come up several times a second, making the log files very big. Looks to me like a BIOS problem, maybe I'll try to update it. I would really like to know if anyone knows what could cause this permanent errors.
  9. Hello, I have running DSM 6 several weeks now without problems, but the HDD sleep/hibernation mode doesn't activate at all. I have a SSD installed as volume 1, so all packages are stored there. The HDD is volume 2 and has only data on it. I set the sleep mode to be activated after 10 minutes, but it never gets activated at all (I activated the protocols). Even at night the drive is spinning, when nothing else is running in my network. I even removed all packages and deactivated all services. No difference. I don't know what to do anymore. There needs to be some system process accessing the drive permanently, but I don't know how to discover this. Could I somehow monitor which processes are accessing the drive? My specs: CPU: Intel Pentium G4400 MB: Asrock H110M-DGS/D3 HDD: WD Red 3tb SSD: Kingston 64gb Jun's Loader Edit: Solved the problem, I had a pretty old BIOS on my Mainboard even though I bought it a year ago or so. That old BIOS caused permanent ACPI errors, which were written into the kernel log several times a second. This kept the disk spinning, but with the update this was fixed.
  10. I have the same problem, hibernation not working with 6.0.2-8451 update 8. I even reinstalled and set up a SSD as volume 1, so if a package or something needs to be loaded it doesn't need to spin up my hard drive. But it isn't going into hibernation ever. Could we somehow monitor what is accessing the drive? Or is this a driver problem? I use WD Red 3tb.
